Lane (Legal or not)

Hi
I've been looking at an OS map and was wondering if this route is legal? On the map its marked as an 'Other road'. Can someone who knows the area advice me on it.

Best place to start checking the legality is the Gloucestershire Definitive map which is available here. Part of your route is a Restricted Byway and a Bridlepath.

From that info it appears not and has been has been downgraded post NERC

Definitive map is key

Not always easy though, some offroad routes are UCR's (unclassified county roads) and these are not on the on-line maps

Thanks for the link thats now in my favourites.

Went and had a look at the lane and saw a dead end sign at either end so went and had a play in the quarry instead.

What do you mean? That they're not off-road? Or that it's not legal to ride a motorcycle on them?

UCRs are roads, roads that are legal to use a motorcycle on.
Riding on anything that is a road, so 'off road', apart from with the landowners permission is illegal, with criminal penalties now.
So, we, as trail riders, should not be using the phrase 'off road' when describing use of unsealed roads.
