Dear forum

This is proving to be more of a challenge than first anticipated.

I have copied a photo album from laptop onto an SD card (easy) - I've then inserted the SD card into the little I pad SD card connector and connected to I pad 2 (easy) - message then reads..."no media found on card"

Bugger...anyone any ideas where I'm going wrong, and subsequently has a simple solution so I can transfer my photo albums?

Thx....

is it an apple card adaptor?

i seem to recall i've heard of issues with non apple kit + later iOS versions.

Proper apple item for def...

Daft thing is, if I take some pics on my camera (Lumix), then insert the SD card from the camera into the apple camera connector, I experience zero problems.

it should read FAT32 SD cards fine. mine reads similarly formatted cards from my gopro fine.

has it ever worked? with that card?

you should be able to simply sync to a photo file on your computer in the Photo tab after highlighting your ipad in the iTunes sidebar.

Am doing it thru i tunes now.

Just wanted to see if I can transfer via SD card from laptop, which seemingly I can't...

Thx for all the assistance....:thumb2

Got iphoto?

If so put them on there via the laptop (if its another Apple product) and turn on photo stream on both devices. They will magically appear on your ipad.

I recently looked into purchasing an iPad and Flash was one of the things that concerned me.
If you Google or You Tube 'iPad Flash Drive' or something similar you will see much on this subject including iirc "no media found on card". It will then talk you through the 'how to'.

As you found out the hard way you can't just transfer files/ photos via the cck, as if it were a USB port. For the CCK to work correctly you need the meta data and the file structure of the SD card. As you've found a work around its obviously not an issue any more, but if you want to try again, you might like to copy the files to an SD card taken out of your camera, and copy them to,the directory that the iPad can " see ". I think it should work.

being inquisitive, i played around with the problem this evening on my iPad. this is what i discovered...

i'd say the software on the iPad is not really meant to extract info from SD cards unless they have been created in a camera. apple would probably justify this by pointing out that the adaptor is not sold as a card reader, but is called a Camera Connection Kit.

for the iPad to see the photo files, they need to be in a folder on the card called DCIM. this is the folder that a digital camera would create on the card.

the file names of the photos need to be 8 characters in length, with no spaces e.g. IMG00001.jpeg or the iPad will not see them.

the adaptor does not make a great connection with the socket on the iPad, probably due to the rounded edge of the iPad. using an extension lead with a slimmer connection made things more reliable for me.

Thanks for a much clearer explanation of what I was trying to say.
