I need to update my ageing Sony laptop. I was about to buy a laptop but then windows 8 came on the scene, and lots of users expressed concern at using it.

I was intending to load my laptop with GPS, and as I have a campervan with a scooter on the back (I would love to replace that with a Suzuki 400 but am not sure about the extra weight)

I like to plot a number of routes in Europe to make the most of the better weather.

I would like advice on what to buy, a laptop, a tablet or an iPad if I could get a GPS comparable to a Zumo to work with that without having to connect to the Internet.

I also use an ACSI program to select campsites and would like to include that on the Laptop or Tablet.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I refused to buy Windows 8 on a computer with no touch-screen.

So.. after delaying a new compuer several months.. I'm about to take delivery of this.

Dell XPS 12 Touch.

I've been playing with one at work and I already know I will learn to live with finger prints on the screen... Windows 8 just wants to be touched...

I have found a WinXP netbook as a decent tool to take on bike trips as it is cheap to buy, runs Mapsource, connects to the internet and serves as a storage/uploading device for photos.

there are plenty of netbooks around with Win7 installed which is probably what I'd buy if I needed a replacement for the Acer Aspire One.

£180 in the High St or a lot less online

Like the poster above, I have found Windows 8 counter intuitive to use on anything that is not equipped with a touch screen.
