As the subject suggests three of the keys on my keyboard have started playing up. The strange thing is that they produce multiple characters when pressed.

The keys are all adjacent which makes me think there's a connection somewhere.

The other annoying thing is that i can 'wiggle' the keys and produce the desired character (among many others)

The affected keys are:

8 - which produces "12347"
i - which produces "qweru"
k - which produces "asdf#j"

the computer is an hp pavillion ze4140. Are these possible / easy to fix?

Any help appreciated as all the copy/paste of characters is driving me mad :)

cheers Fqwerul

Try a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment - you'd be amazed what you find in a keyboard :eek

Try what Iain says if that doesn't work it suggests a split board/membarane under the keypad.

I wouldn't try and fix it as it would be costly, rather retire it to a desktop and use a USB keyboard or alternatively send it to Bletchley Park to add to their collection :thumb

If you ever have to explain a funny, it ain't funny.

Your laptop is morphing into an enigma machine

Don't think you can mention "enigma" today for fear of the racial polis.....

Judge - sorry, I missed it but it was good... that's what hangovers do to you

The keyboard has been cleaned (vacuum with brush and can of air) and the laptop has never been dropped or really knocked around when carried (only taken it on the bike once or twice and only for very short distances)

The more I ask around the more it would appear that it's the membrane and the more I think Judge's suggestion to retire it to 'Desktop' status is a good one.

Thanks, as ever, for the suggestions and advice.
