Laptop boot up error

Anyone give any advice on this please?

Dell laptop, a few years old now, when booting up get a blue screen with the folowing error:

STOP: c0000221 unknown Hard Error
\Systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

I gues this DLL is either missing or corrupt... I have limited PC knowledge but can get in to the section to change the boot up, If I boot from CD and insert the original CD would this then re-load windows and also the DLL file?

It runs windows XP.

Yes, eggzakkerly....you need to copy ntdll.dll over from the XP disc

CUTNPASTE FROM ELSEWHERE:

To get ntdll.dll just boot with the Windows XP CD and select "R" at the Welcome Screen to enter Recovery Console, logon at the drive you want and enter the password if available (just press enter if unavailable).

At the Command Prompt type the following (where "X" represent your CD-Rom drive letter and "C" is your system drive letter):
COPY X:\I386\NTDLL.DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\ntdll.dll
COPY X:\I386\NTDLL.DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll
That's all.

Cut and paste any error code you ever get into Google and you'll get tens of thousands of answers, plus there are page after page of explanations of each code on Microsoft's own support site as well
