Can anyone recommend a case that will protect my laptop as I carry it around in my panniers or top box? I have a neoprene sleeve and that is fine to use in back pack but doesn't look anything like sturdy enough for jolting around in a pannier.

Yes ... I got one from Kriega on their internet site .. About £20 last year ... A bit big for my iPad so I fill it out with chargers and glasses etc ...but clearly made for your laptop size and strangely enough it's a perfect fit straight into the BM top box .. A very good bit of kit indeed.

I use a Crumpler Slim Laptop bag and use a neoprene sleeve for the laptop when I put it in a pannier.

Crumpler do a whole range of stuff, which isn't cheap but is good.

I use a Navitech bag which is nicely padded yet slim fitting. The price belies the quality which is really rather good.

I also have a clear clip on Speck cover - a friend had his Macbook in one of these in his rucksack when he threw his bike down the road at 70+, only damage was the edge of the cover ground away. He used the Macbook to contact his insurance whilst waiting for the Police/Ambulance :D

EDIT: Having said that my laptop always goes in a rucksack, I wouldn't trust a pannier/top box due to vibration and shock...............

When I was a wage slave and the Company provided me with a laptop I just used a normal backpack and stuffed the backpack and laptop into a 46L top box, never had a problem. The size of the Vario box, and the fact that it's now my own computer, means I need a more customised solution. Thanks for the suggestions. I have Speck case for my iPad and I'm very happy with it, apart from the skinny piece of elastic that secures the top cover, though it hasn't broken yet.

I use techair bags. One I use daily carries a 10" net book or iPad plus a folder full of documents and loads of other bits and pieces.
They do various sizes to suit.

Definitely recommended.

I have been using a crumpler bag for about 5 years, it's excellent and fits nicely - it has an inner sleeve for laptop - takes a 13" laptop nicely. Pretty pricey but wearing very well.
