If you were genuinely intrested in buying a bike from a BMW dealer, and after 2 days of phone calls and emails, and having said that you would like some high quality pictures to see if said bike was worth it's money.. and a 250 mile round trip and then getting some phone pictures of an un prepaired very dirty bike... you were asked for £1000.00 to hold it for a day .. would you pay it:confused:

Then the next thing the dealer calls and all of a sudden, there is "someone else" intrested in the bike.. and he's test riding the day before you have arranged to visit.. are you sure you dont want to put down a large deposit sir?!

I remember when dealers asked for between £50 and £100 as a deposit if you were genuinely going to visit for a look and test ride.

Just was intrested if this is the norm these days :mmmm

My sentiments exactly, although stories such as this are becoming more and more common, no more so than here in N. Ireland where too many dealers believe that they hold the monopoly and we as customers just have to follow suit. Guess what ? I know one particular dealer who quite a few previous customers who I have met, and members of this site won't be revisiting to change their bikes.

Lovely bike!

I did look at this... itl the looks superb.. its about a grand over my budget though... so I have to keep looking. I really like the look of the Adventure 1150 in Black.. so if you know of a nice one!:)

Let me know!

Must say, I am suprised tht BMW dealers have o sink o what seems a litle shark like in their way of pressuring people into making a lage deposit.

Wouldnt have minded if the pictures had been properly taken.. instead of out of focus phone snaps.. very dissapointing as I was really very intrested.

My experience in Belgium in the last 2 weeks.

Emailed BMW BeNeLux that i want to test the ADV, 1 week later told to call local dealer. I call local dealer, he tells me to come by (40kms).

I arrive at local dealer, say i want a 2 hour test drive, thats 40 euro total (20euro per hour) returnable deposit. Test drive arranged for 3 days later 100kms away near brussels at 9.30am (traffic jam hell!)

Take test drive. Like bike. search internet for an under 3,00km 07 model, buy one that day.

Next day return to shop, ask for 40 euro back, certainly sir, can we interest you in buying one? No thanks, just did :thumb2

Good service i rekon :thumb2

Bruxelles "traffic jam hell" were you in a car? Commuted to and from Bruxelles for years, never had a problem with traffic, even on SNCB strike days....

Yep, i was in a cage, Ist snarl up at Herentals, 2nd on the way to Bornam :(

Seems to be normal dealer practice

Plenty of very good bikes out and about

If it's a 1150 adv you are after i just did a search on MCN and 28 came up, just on the first page a few black ones are showing.

Good luck

Thanks!

Thanks for your comments.. I thought it was just me getting old and grumpy, and out of touch with how dealers work..

I did re contact the dealer today, who apologised, and said it had been a training issue. He then sent me some high def pictures, showing great detail.. and the bike really looks in nice condition, he the asked me for a £250.00 deposit, to hold the bike untill I had viewed it, that would be refunded if I was not happy:thumb2

He actually thanked me for bringing this problem to his attention, and said, that their training of staff would be changed..

Faith restored:clap
