Before I splash out and buy a colour laser printer, does anyone have any recommendations as to what to get + where to get one?

I'm just about to run out of headed paper at work so I thought it would be cheaper to get a spiffing new printer rather than re-stock on paper.

TIA,

David

do you need a colour laser ? restocking your headed paper is alot cheaper. if you are dead set on a colour laser let me know what your expected usage will be and i will recommend a few - keep in mind your average workgroup colour laser will cost you around £2000 in maintenance a year - but it is all down to (expected) usage

Hmmm. Got to admit, I've been looking more at the three hundred quid mark! At that price range am I just buying a heap of trouble? Something like this

You have to be really really sure that you are doing the right thing because colour laser toner cartridges cost the earth. Reckon on £55 for each of the 4 colours with an (optimistic) average life of 2000 pages - much less if you are doing large areas of colour on each page rather than simple text. So you are looking at around 10p copy minimum for a bare basic page.

Viking are expensive for that printer. Buy it direct from HP for £216 inc VAT & shipping: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF05a/5043-5047-5051-5051-5063-12096450.html

Which raises an interesting point. A strange but cost effective way to buy and run this printer is to buy more than 1. If you look at the cost of the printer it is roughly the same as the cost of 4 x toner cartridges. You get 4 cartridges (worth £220) with the printer so although it seems like a totally stupid approach you should consider buying more than 1 printer so that effectively each set of cartridges comes with a free printer which you can keep for spares as and when you need them. This will give you things like imaging drums which only have a finite life and can be very expensive.

Thanks for the link and info, Mike. I checked my usual ink suppliers (choice ) and yep, £55, and no compatible equivilent. Hmmm :eek

Maybe I'll get a new load of printed paper...

Printing photos using a laser

linked to the original topic, can a colour laser printer be used to print digi photos - assuming you were using photo quality paper.

I'm looking for a printer for printing primarily word documents and spreadsheets at home but dont want an "inkjet" as I find the output isn't great. On this basis, I was looking at getting a small laser jobbie. The idea of a colour laser to do photos too would be great, should such exist for not silly money, i.e. well less than £300.

Anyone any thoughts or comments or should I go for separates?

Cheers

Jonny

I'm definately no expert at this, but I get very good results from my i965 Canon for photo printing, or you could try the ranges of Die-sub printers around, I've seen great results from those.
