Just after getting home, I had a call from my Diabetes Nurse, who told me that Friday's blood test has shown a healthy decline in my blood sugar - in fact, she's happy it is completely under control.

I also lost six pounds in weight whilst I was away.

I have not linked this journal to anyone involved in my healthcare...

My trusty Arai XD3 has been retired, and is now sported as headgear by my grotesque* (or 'the grumpy man', as the girls next door call him)...

*Fun fact. A gargoyle is a grotesque which forms part of a waterspout. So now you know...

Shame. Is there a plan for the future or not thought about it just yet? :nenau

Mike, thank you for this. I wasn't feeling great today so I thought I would have gentle read through your travel blog!
One of the great things I read and enjoyed way back when was keeping up with your Inspection of the Colonies. Your word play and photographic skills have not left you in any way shape or form.
Thank you for entertaining us, and I hope that there is a return to confidence and a level of normality for you and Marnie in the weeks and months that lie ahead.

An update on Marnie.

When I got back from the USA, she had lost 3kg - from a start of 26kg - and was looking painfully thin, despite receiving excellent care from her dog-sitter. I took her to the vet the following day for a check-up, and for advice on how to chubby her up a bit. They weren't concerned over her weight loss, given her state of health, and suggested that she had just missed me.

It was time for her fortnightly chemo jab yesterday, so I weighed her again - to find she'd lost another 0.2kg. This is despite her having a healthy amount of dog food - and an unhealthy amount of treats and take-outs from the breakfast cafés I frequent. Her lymph nodes were also very swollen - possibly the biggest they've been.

She's still active, happy, eats without any problem, although her poo has tended to be on the soft side. She's able to jump up on the bed, walks (rather than runs) upstairs and seems to sleep OK.

My vet says she's likely reaching her end game...:(

When first diagnosed, a week before Christmas last year, the vet told me that - with chemo - the most likely prognosis was her lasting three months, so she's had a good run.

We're carrying on with the current drug regime - daily steroids and fortnightly chemo, and see how she does.

She'd been doing so well, I'd got a little complacent, I think...:(

She'd been doing so well, I'd got a little complacent, I think...:(

That happened with me and My Cat She had been managing but her food intake was for a cat 5 times her size

I had not worked it out What was going on Until it was too late

A weekend of us away was enough to tip the scales for her!!

I fucked up!! I think you are ahead of It MikeO you have caught on to it Good Luck

Took Marnie to the vet today, after she’d had a weekend of diarrhoea. He’s given me some probiotics to help solve that problem.
We had a discussion, and I’ve decided to stop chemotherapy, as this is the root cause of the diarrhoea. The effect it has on her dignity is not sustainable - she’s clearly ashamed every time I come into the kitchen each morning to clean up.
So - apart from the probiotics, no more medication. We will let nature take its course. She’s done well, and has had an excellent and fun year…

Mike,
I am sorry that you are giving up on biking as your travel reports were always excellent and have given lots of us on here plenty of enjoyment reading them.
I too am thinking about ‘retiring’ from riding as my GS 800 is only coming out of the garage at MOT time and the 1200RT I bought from j Nicholson on here few months back I haven’t even ridden…!
pit might be wise not to get rid of your bike until next spring when you might feel differently?
so sorry to read about your dog - been there, done that and it is tough. You are doing the right thing by her.

Bummer Mike, Thanks for the entertaining report as always. Sorry for your loss dogs and cats have a way of getting under your skin. Sounds odd but I missed my childhood dog (had him from I was 8-24) more than many of my relatives!! Take care.

I think I have some grit in my eyes .... no it's not grit, it's tears for Marnie. You were a team Mike. RIP gal.

Good luck with the hunt for Mike's Mojo Martin (Arsey) ... we need it back here :thumby:
