Thanks to this forum my girlfriend and I have made it safely and happily from Genoa to Tangiers, down the coast via Fez to Agadir and are now in Taroundant. We are off to Marrekech next and unfortunately due to my little confidence in my 1997 Ford Transit camper making it over the High Atlas via once of the mounatin passesm we are going to go for the new highway instead. From Marrakech we have about 15 days until we have to head back for a ferry. We want to take some time to see the Med coast and from the forums want to avoid Ketama. Can you suggest a good route considering we have already passed through Meknes and Fez and want to avoid trouble in the Rif?

Also what are the chances of booking a ferry a day before departure at the Ceuta port to Algeciras? Will this cost more that booking it online before hand?

Thanks in advance

Route? Head up toward Azrou (slowly and off the main roads) and play in the Cedar forests. Pref via the Cascades de Ouzoud and Midelt, most of the Cirq du Jaffar is now tarmacked or graded piste.
Chefchauen is worth a visit.
Coast? Not my thing so can't advise. You'll manage all the tarmacked Atlas passes no problem and that is where I would spend my time.

Don't worry about ferry tickets, there is no such thing as advanced booking. Turn up, buy ticket, get on next ferry:thumb

Your van should make the Tizi n'Test and it's a magnificent route.

As Mr Ifan suggests except I would divert to Imilchil as the annual 'bride festival' is running 23-25 September, see http://www.moroccofestivals.co.uk/Imilchil_Festival.html

Marrakech - Demnate (visit and walk through the Imni n'Ifri natural bridge) - Cascades d'Ouzoud - Azilal. From Azilal take the road east almost to El Ksiba then head south to Imilchil.

Also nice, as Mr Ifran suggests is the route through the cedar forests and limestone karst scenery from Khenifra via Sources de l'Oum er Rbia to Azrou. Hang out in Azrou for a day or so.

You can get an advance ferry ticket through http://www.aferry.to if you want.

Also if heading North via Azrou-Meknes then a visit to Volublis is well worth it. Very extensive site of Roman ruins.

Eastern Middle Atlas route: From Azrou head east through Boulmane and join the R507. Bit bland at first but soon improves. Through Immouzer des Marmouchta and then on to Taza (stop at the Goufre Friouato if you like cave systems). From Taza head north to the coast.
