Hi
I remember hearing of a new discovery of a German Artillery Battery site. The site was discovered in 2012 and it mentioned that it may have been firing on Omagha beech on D Day. I am just looking to see if anyone here knows of it location in Normandy.

See this link - http://maisybattery.com/Home.html - I assume it's the battery to which you refer.

I'm doing a 5 day camping tour of the D-Day beaches area in the summer so will add this to my potential itinerary (yet to be finalised but Pegasus Bridge and the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption / Airborne Museum at Ste Mere Eglise mark the vague east and west parameters with a touring base of Arromanches les Bains).

South of Grandcamp-Maisy on the D514.

I have not heard of another being found since Maisy was rediscovered.
The story of how Maisy was found is amazing...... two arcs of Atlantique Wall didn't meet so there must of been an arc of fire from where the Maisy complex was found...... brilliant.

After you showed me where it was I went back for a good root around:thumb

Hi don't miss out the battery complex at Merville, i nearly did as was running short of time but that would have been a big mistake, it was an important facility & there's a lot there to see mueseum/bunkers not forgetting a restored Dakota/c47 no less. Hope you have a good trip :thumb

Longues-sur-mer is worth a mooch to, took the kids to educate them :)

WN62 is also worth a mooch, the inspiration behind the opening scenes of saving private ryan, and position of Heinrich Severloh and his MG42

Yes..... I'm heading that way again for a few days. It is a great place to ride, especially some of the small roads and tracks......

I was at Maisy a few years ago and was talking to the owner of the site. I'm sure he has uncovered much more of it now and will be worth a re-visit soon. He also reckoned that there is two or three buried Flak 88's in the area which he was hoping to find, but I haven't heard anything else of this notion.
