Quick question about R1150GS gearboxes, on my last 1150 gs one of the first produced the gearbox was to be honest bloody awful or in dealer speak quirky,
Poor slow change and you had to be very deliberate in changes, it lasted 40 odd thousand with me but the two owners after me managed between them to blow the sh*t out of it , input shaft failed and punched a hole in the casings.
My current low mileage 1150 (21,000 miles) is from the same production batch and has the same slow clunky change ,now despite having ridden a number of later 1150's it was probably 20 years ago and I seem to remember the boxes in the 2002 onwards bike geing much better with a slicker change and more reliable
Can anyone confirm this, as I have a low mileage 2004 R1150RT box sitting in the garage that is shall we say cosmetically challenged and I am considering having it cosmetically sorted and then given a mechanical going over and then fit it in place of the early box in my bike
