Swinging arm/ Exhaust changed sides, so old versions of the panniers need to be re-purchsed

, it's just more to go wrong and I like the GS just the way it is.
i'd say it's a temporary lash up for the test bike only.

I spy cooling fins on those cylinders?![]()
We have a bet going in the club if the new GS is going to be lighter or heavier than the old one. Maybe at the same time the drive shaft issues will be addressed with some more usable power and torque. 115bhp? I just hope it is the bike we all wanted BMW to make. They do read the forums you know so be careful about what you say when something goes boing due to your doing and expect BMW to fix it for free. Very reliable source on that one if a bit off topic.

Yes you're right. Apparently the heads is still air cooled but the water jacket encloses the cylinder.
As the most heat critical component is the exhaust valve located in the head that would surprise me a great deal. I suspect that there is a confusion in translation. The main cylinder head component will be water cooled but the camshaft covers will not be.
The move to water cooling has allowed the relocation of the exhaust to the underside of the cylinder which will mean less direct airflow at the exit from the head. Not good if it was still air cooled.

This 1,100bhp Can-Am Porsche 917/30 has an air-cooled boxer engine but it doesn't have exhaust valves hanging in the breeze!

That's why it has a big fan...
