Latest MapSource - dodgy routing?

I recently upgraded MapSource to the latest version using the auto downloader / updater function. Since then, its routing logic seems to be rather messed up. For example when plotting a route back from the dirt bike show near Coventy to Birkenhead, it sent me up the M6, onto the A500, back onto the M6 southbound for 10 miles, back up the M6 northbound and then onto the A500 again.

The maps I'm using are City Navigator v5 ... I'm wondering if the new MapSource is relying on data only present in newer maps to do its routing? Just a theory though.

Has anyone else noticed screwy routing in the new version?

Yup, I didn't use the "WebUpdater" - MapSource has its own menu option to download an update, which is what I used.

As far as the maps go, City Navigator version 5 shows pretty much all the roads I've ever used, hence I don't think it's worth buying an upgrade.

So is anyone using the latest MapSource with older maps, and have you seen any routing problems?

Have you checked the preferences on road speeds???

It sounds like yours have become badly set so it's routing you according to the calculations based on dodgy figures.

I'll check, but I'm not sure why dodgy road speeds would cause it to route me in a circle on the M6 :)

Interestingly, asking mapsource to plot the same route but in the other direction worked ok, I knew something was wrong because the route back from Coventry was 20 miles longer than the route there.

Have you got any Via points in the incorrect route ? The problem you described, sounds as if there is a misplaced "via point" on a wrong carriageway, especially when you say "onto the M6 southbound for 10 miles, back up the M6 northbound".

By jove Taff I think you might be on to something there. The stupid thing is that I am familiar with the "via point on the wrong carriageway" problem but it never occured to me on this occasion.

Thanks for the input :)
