Yes, acoording to one of my GS Club Scotland/GS Club Sweden Facebook friends its just reported in the Norwegian press that the DFDS ferry from Newcastle will be starting to operate again in April sailing to Stavanger/Bergen and will have two sailings per week off season and three per week during the high season!

If this is the case i'll definitely be sailing to Norway again next summer!

See you all on the boat...........If it all goes ahead i'll be sailing around the 25th of May!

If not i'll be cycling Icelands ring road on my Thorn Sherpa in horizontal sleet and howling ashstorm gales!!!!
 
It used to cost around £320 return when we sailed late May and booked early but should be around the same as the Newcastle Imjuiden crossing and it takes around the same time if you disembark in Stavanger and Bergen was always a few hours later and I'm not sure if this boat will stop in Haugesund which was nice as it was quite a small town compared to Stavanger.

Hopefully it'll be a bit cheaper than the Harwich-Esbjerg crossing which I always though was quite expensive. I remember both ferries being alongside each other at North Sheilds in the days of Fjordline/DFDS with the larger DFDS boat sailing to Europe..........! The Norway boat was always fully booked when I was on it aswell!!

Don't get too excited just yet--- Norwegian company that made the announcement do not have a boat yet and local business leaders say No Chance of a service starting in April 2014.:mad:

There's a link on GS Club Sweden and GS Club Scotland on Facebook..........I couldn't find anything here either but there was one in either Swedish or Norwegian...........I'm trusting my Scandanavian friends on this one and would be so disappointed if the ferry didn't run this year............I've been waiting since 2008!

One of the GS Club Sweden(fb) guys says it was only in the newspapers so far............!

They have been backed by North Tyneside Council, where elected Conservative mayor Linda Arkley green-lighted a £15,000 loan to help the initial growth fund submission.

Also lending its support is Newcastle Council, where officers have been instructed to help develop the bid document."
 
Far as I understand they didn't get the growth fund grant, so thought that had killed it.
Hope not. Personally think its a national shame that we don't have a commercial link with one of our nearest neighbours.
 
There's definately a link in Norwegian somewhere with a picture of a big DFDS ship on it............I read it last week and can't find it anymore!:blast

I'd recommend joining GS Club Swedeen aswell on facebook as they're really helpful and a very friendly bunch if anyone makes it over there next summer!

It's a crazy situation that hurts Norway more than the UK.
If Northlink ferries can make the Shetland crossing pay, why don't they give Norway a go?

Good evening all, someone jumped the gun.

The shipping line, DFDS, has plans, but not definite enough to give any dates. They make it quite clear that 2014 is too optimistic, the necessary infrastructure is not in place. There is some bambus about an Englishman telling a conferance in Sandnes that they were sailing a regular service from april '14. Whatever, it could well be an intentional leak, could be a misunderstanding or wishfull thinking.

However, if you want to come direct to Norway, there is still the Harwich - Breivik rollon - rolloff, but they have priority for commercial drivers, and don't have many passenger berths.

Looking foreward to the Newcastle boat, but it could take some time.
