I know that there are threads on this issue but they do not seem to have been updated recently, so I am trying to get opinions on the more recent tyre choices that are available for the 1200.

Currently I am looking to replace road tyres on my bike, until now I have been happy with the Avon Azaro/Storm ST combination. I find that these give good wet weather grip, good feedback and good dry grip with reasonable wear rates.:augie

However, I understand that the Storm II is now out and I am not sure if that also includes a suitable front tyre or if you would still have to use the Azaro for the front? Anyone have anyfeedback on thse yet? :)

I also remeber there was a lot of excitment when the Roadsmarts were first released, is anyone able to give some real user feedback throughout the whole life cycle of the tyre.

Are there any others that need to be considered - Michelins? How much do the prices vary and is the difference worth it.

See what happens....

battlewing

Bridgestone BT -020's do for me

Conti Road Attack for me

Trail Attack pour moi.

Me?

I vote for Michelin Anakee

Mix'n'match tyres from Avon with confidence....If in doubt contact them, they won't bite.

I have mixed and matched tyres from different manufacturers and lived to tell the tale but, given the choice, would try to go for uniformity.

Its what floats you boat

Personally Metzler Tourance EXP.

10000 mile front and rear

*The Metzeler patented 0° steel belt technology on front and rear tire provides great straight lane and braking stability, maximum precision in curve and excellent bump absorbtion performances also in full loaded conditions.
* Improved compound for high grip on wet and dry surfaces: the perfect combination for long distance journeys
* New tread pattern design engineered to ensure best on-road performances in all weather conditions

It really is a bit of a waste of time asking for tyre recomendations. Most people think that they know best and will recomend what they use. I like Battlewings, plenty of others don't.

There was a lot of criticism of the Tourance EXP when it first came out - primarily about lifespan/mileage.

Has this changed?

Anakees are or were very well built: I ran a rear flat for 35km approx on a dirt road and when we found a tyre depot they plugged it in 2 places and I did another 2,000 miles on it.

To be honest, I've not had a bad tyre on the 1200, just expensive ones..

Pick a pretty pattern.

After 3 years on metz tourance, I've just changed to Conti road attacks.

I'm looking to go back the other way! I've only got 6k out of my Trail Attacks front and back and I've pushed to get that. The rear is VERY square and the uneven tread on the front has to be seen to be believed.

I do wonder whether this new-fangled electronic suspension could have anything to do with it! Prior to that I had Bridgestones and they did the same. I've never got less than 10k out of a front tyre. Mine's an 08 GSA.

Might give the Roadsmarts a whirl once the OE Continental Trail Attack's have worn out. I don't need psuedo trail tyres for purely on-roads use and wasn't too impressed with the Tourances on my Craponord. Luckily the rear only lasted 3500 miles :augie
