Its what floats you boat

Personally Metzler Tourance EXP.

10000 mile front and rear

*The Metzeler patented 0° steel belt technology on front and rear tire provides great straight lane and braking stability, maximum precision in curve and excellent bump absorbtion performances also in full loaded conditions.
* Improved compound for high grip on wet and dry surfaces: the perfect combination for long distance journeys
* New tread pattern design engineered to ensure best on-road performances in all weather conditions

I tried most of the road biased options (including Avons, BT20, Pilots, Trail and Road attacks) and think the Dunlop Roadsmarts are the best. The Avons come close in the dry but prefer the Dunlops all round. Dual purpose are pants on the road :D

There was a lot of criticism of the Tourance EXP when it first came out - primarily about lifespan/mileage.

Has this changed?

I have always favoured Tourance, but I also heard that the EXP did not have the same mileage in them as the earlier model........any comments?

I've just spoken to Cambrian Tyres this morning and their comment was that the std Tourance is better for mileage and the EXP is a sportier version.

Agree on the positive assessment of the Roadsmarts. Even in this cold weather I find they handle significantly better than Tourances (which were awful once they were down to the last 3mm) and somewhat better than the OEM Battlewings. However, on snow they don't inspire as much confidence as the other two... :)

I'll leave a final opinion until I've worn out the Roadsmarts: they'll have to measure up to the Battlewings which lasted over 10,000 miles. The Tourances were toast after 6,300m.

Potentially cheap tyres

My local costco in Chester is about to do bike tyres. They only do Michelin but when I had some fitted to my car recently they were much cheaper than anywhere else - including online prices. You have to be a member of course but some of you out there will be eligable.

They are waiting for the machine to fit them at present but already have the literature on the tyres they will stock and the sizes.

Heidenau K60's John if you are determined to go on the '12' - best tyre I have ever used on mine. Already 7000 miles+ and still look less than half worn on rear.
IMHO, you really should go on the Dakar..........fitted with Mitas E-07 Enduro's:)
and I have an airhawk for sale!
whatever- have a good trip
