The rear shocks look like they are on upside down ?

They do. I'm going over to look at it tomorrow if I get time, I will tell him and we can investigate

They look like Falcon classic shocks. They are deCarbon (ie nitrogen pressurised) so can be mounted either way up. I had them on both my Lavs.
Here's another angle, there's an air valve at the top, shock looks new

That's a cracker. Looks like your mate got a good deal. I always wanted a Jota back in the day but could never afford one. Now that I have the spare cash I can't ride one as the bars are too low and clutch is too heavy for me.
