Lawrence of arabia - dorset - anyone interested

I'll be a waif and stray and meet you at Fleet services.
(N51.29547 W0.85389 - just in case you've found your GPS by then :)

As mentioned on another thread.

On the 17th Oct there is the Weymouth Beach Race with practice starting at noon and races from 1pm. Might this be of interest as an event to visit after meeting at Clouds Hill?

were up for this one could meet at roundham services on m27 what sort of time or have we not got that far yet :judge

Steptoe,

Fleet services on the M3 southbound suits me, or Weyhill,if that's easier.

Andrew

Neil. I'll stop off at Fleet Services as per usual... or if you are going straight onto Weyhill I'll join you there.. whatever is easiest.
Just let let me know.

What sort of times are we talking about?

I'll be there. Living in Thames Ditton like wot I do I'll be at the start point if you give me times Steptoe.
:)

Those of you that want the real deal on TE could do worse than looking here

TE Lawrence Studies Web Site

I just got back from the eighth biannual TE Lawrence society symposium in Oxford last weekend.

On a very sad note Professor John Mack, who wrote a Pulitzer prize winning biography of Lawrence, was over here (from the US) to speak at the symposium and was killed last week by a drunk driver in North London.

Hows about - leave Fleet services ( on M3 just past jct 4a ) 9:15 am -- on to weyhill fair, meet up with others - leave weyhill fair 10am -- down to Clouds Hill , and some Fords that Clives looking up ( aren't you Clive) , can eat in a pub or tank museum --

sorry shrek 2, no meet at roundhams --

meet at Fleet outside main entrance to the restaurant/shops.

Looking up Fords

Yep, I'll post them up in a .mps file tomorrow some time - however, I'd also like to add a waypoint for "Weyhill Fair" - I presume that is the pub in
Weyhill, Andover, Hampshire, SP11 0PP

Actually it's ready now...

I've included Clouds Hill, LofA Memorial and LofA Grave Waypoints as best as I can work them out.

So on the .mps file the route goes

Clouds Hill

LofA Memorial

LofA Grave

A series of fords that heads back toward Salisbury...

Stratford Tony

I chose Stratford Tony as the "final" one since the description on http://vamp.idlers.org/~jaffa/wiltshire.htm
states that it leads into a Byway - on checking
http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/getamap/ and selecting "Get a Map" and entering SU093263 into the Search For box it shows that the Byway goes on for a couple of miles before reaching a main road and leads into various others. If anyone has a proper O/S Explorer/Landranger map of the area, bring it along as it may come in useful :)

And a chopped-up map (to get the image small enough)

Would love to come but the 17th is not good for me. The 'Stop the War' brigade are having a march in central London so I'm working.

If the fords are too deep...

In case you were wondering what happens to the route if the fords are too deep, or if you don't fancy the idea of crossing - please note that some don't appear to lead anywhere i.e. if you do cross, you'll have to re-cross to return to the route. A couple of others appear to have easy re-routes around them.
I shall have the route and waypoints entered into my Navigator II and will be happy to guide those that don't fancy crossing via a "dry" alternative to ensure nobody gets lost from the group (touch wood ;)

Can I come too?

Totally new eejot here. Live Berks but travels to Dorset and coast inc. Warham regularly.

Can someone decipher the threads and summarize as you all seem to be pretty familiar with the meeting places, times and dates etc.

All I need is Time, Date and meeting point. Any chance. Ta.

Skippy.

Doh! Numb Nuts.

Ok, ok. So if I read ALL the thread I'll get the whole picture.

M3 services at Fleet are good for me. Who's meeting there and what time?

Can I bring sandwiches?

Skippy.

It's 9:15 at Fleet Services. I should be there.. and I think Steptoe and those coming out of London on the M3 will pop in and pick us up.
