LC Fuel Economy

With the new bikes shaping up past the first service and getting into the larger miles am interested on what kind of fuel economy you're getting, and how you would assess the way you ride?

Oh and before we get the "I buy a motorbike and don't think of the fuel economy, after all I'd have a Toyota Yaris if I needed to think of that..." .. to save space on the thread we don't need that disclaimer bit, ta

On the computer, it reckons its averaging around 58mpg with a mixture of riding. The bike has only done 700 miles though, so it's early days. I'll have a better idea after my trip to Italy next month, and will report back.

I'll do 600 miles this weekend so hope to get it in to the mid 50's.

At present there is no mpg improvement over the 1100's or 1150's that average 50mpg +/- 5 mpg

You would think the new LC, should achieve 65-70mpg easily, with all the new engine technology and given the mpg increases that BMW cars have made in the last decade, without sacrificing performance

LC should be far, far better...............hardly progress, is it

This isn't by any means an intended veiled dig at the LC peeps, but I agree this isn't great progress- is it unfair to expect better performance and economy? BMW seem to manage that in their car division.

That said possibly better to measure when things have bedded in, perhaps they may improve.

I was thinking this morning how perhaps a R850 version of the LC might do. Boxer feel, maybe not dissimilar to the 12Hexhead, less focus on power, better economy

Look at BMW Petrol cars, more bhp and more power/speed and better fuel economy

GS Hexhead>LC power increase is 15bhp, but the new bike weighs 10kg more and fuel mpg is the same

Oh contraire! the fuel economy is pretty good for a 1200cc, 125bhp motorcycle with a drag coefficient of a barn door. People just don't seem to get how important drag is, it is the be all and end all of riding at high speed.

The 1100/1150 have poor fuel consumption compared to the LC - 50mpg from a mere 85bhp dog slow bike is dire, so the LC has made big progress.

Comparison with cars is a meaningless comparison as the drag coefficient of a car is a fraction that of a typical motorcycle and rider.

The true mpg has never matched the computer mpg, not on two twin cam GSAs, a 2011 f650gs nor in 10 years of recording my Volvo v70's consumption.

Mind you I'm pretty sure many petrol stations charge a gallon (alright 4.54609 litres) and deliver something less than that

Is MPG not related to how the bike is ridden? If your thing is ragging the tits off the thing on a sunny day then I can get my LC down to 30 something. On track 20 something will be achievable and bumbling, like an 1100 it will get high 40mpg. And when was progress in motorcycle enjoyment measured in MPG.

These MPG threads are pointless unless the same person rides each of the bikes in the same way over the same route in the same conditions. Now, does anyone here know what oil it takes.
