Sorry but you must be wrong THE EXPERTS on here keep on telling us we do not need headlight guards because the lens on the LC is indestructible made from the same stuff as riot shields, tank armour, etc.

It must have been your fault for riding too fast, too slow ,not wearing full BMW clothing or other such bollocks

I would be looking for second hand having seen the new prices and then buy a headlight protector

Bloody pheasant smashed my headlight lens today. Has anyone replaced the assembly? -or can I get a replacement lens. It's quite a big unit and I'm sure it won't be cheap. Drat!!

I dont suppose anyone knows if the gs and adv have the same headlight unit?? Couple on ebay are off Gs`s.

Hi buddy, yes the lights are the same K50 / K51 being GS & GSA respectively.
Use this site to locate the part nos you need either by putting in your vin no or search the bike.

I've searched mine which is a 2015 GS TE.

The expanded diagram shows the lens and covers.
With current exchange rates I would be tempted to check for a possible European supplier or even USA.
As for all breakers being dodgy, just ask them for the vin no of the bike it was broken from and check the details with Datatag or BMW.
I can sympathise as I lost lamp unit many years ago so have never chanced it again since.
If you have invested in a full service history I would be asking my dealer to help out on the new purchase.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this thread. I have had a headlight guard on my bike since the day I bought it.

If you have fully comp insurance then make a claim, especially if you have no claims protection too.

Claim and they'll just boost your premium. NCP is just that, they let you keep your discount. So if you're on 50% you still have 50% after your claim. But your policy could go up by 50% or more.
So if your premium was £200 it was actually £400 with 50% discount. After your claim they could increase your premium to £600 and honour your NCP of 50% but you'll be paying £300!

Simples! You can't beat the insurance companies!

No you don't. ... you have to disclose any claims so they put up your premiums and you don't get proof of NCD from previous insurer because you claimed so you don't get a discount ....

I had no problem getting my full protected no claims transferred from BMW insurance (after a claim) to Carol Nash and the premium was just a few quid more than the BMW cost before my claim, so it depends on the companies involved I guess. I changed because BMWs new underwriters wanted a huge hike because they didn't like dual post codes

Do go on - Only LED's seem to be replacing halogens around the home at very reasonable cost.

1000 lumen torches with Cree LED's for less than 20 quid.

I don't even rate my BMW LED headlight very highly ..... as for £850?

Do it myself- 4 bolts to take off the cover- two to remove headlight unit.

If need it coding will whip it round to dealers to sort- to be honest my dealer-marshalls in grimsby- is very good and friendly and often has discounted stuff, and sometimes gave me stuff free. Mind you I do take two bikes and an M4 in there for servicing.

The gulf between automotive and home use LEDs is huge - better that you research it yourself otherwise your inbuilt prejudice will just lead to a pointless argument

I don't rate the LC BMW headlight paticularly highly either, it's better than the halogen bulbs in some respects but worse in others, particularly the colour spectrum. As long as it is still performing near to its original spec after 2 years I ain't really bovvered.

Tell that to the 3 lc owners who have had their headlights replaced at my dealers due to stone damage , not everybody can afford £1000 to replace a headlight

I read somewhere an LED conversion kit is available for halogen lamps, complete with electronics and cooling fan for £50 ... £850 for a BMW lamp is taking the piss.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad my bike has the LED unit & think the daytime running light is cool.

But can you imagine some scrote nicking your BMW car headlights (as I had done many years ago) and shelling out 2 grand to replace them?
At this rate in 5 years time, older cars with smashed headlights will be insurance write offs.
