Are the LC engines still a bit agricultural sounding/ tappety or does the water cooling jacket quieten things down a bit?
Not referring to the camchain tensioner rattle on start-up,I'm aware of that. It's the sound when it's ticking over I am referring to.
Thanks

They are a bit rattly and you can here the injectors clicking too.

Well mine sounds like a absolute bag of spanners at tick over in neutral. Pull in the clutch in neutral and it sounds lovely. Mega clunks going into first from idle. To me the only crap things about it really.

Bag of spanners , mechanically noisier than the older 1200tc model at low speed and woe betides if you get stuck in traffic on an Autobahn in Germany in 38 degrees plus heat, sounds like its about to go off with a bang once the 5w40 oil has turned into runny p**s

Screw your ear plugs in tighter, it works for me....:D

makes a fair bit of noise under heavy breaking

Noisier than any of my previous air / oil heads, both engines I have had sound like a bag of spanners when the oil is hot / bike is low rev / idle. get over this & accept its 'normal' & the bikes an absolute joy to own & play out on

Yeap same here, very rattly on start up and sounds noisy as hell on GoPro and as Neil said in 38 degrees heat filtering through traffic on the Autobahn this year on my way to Garmisch I thought it was going to explode! but this passed and we had an awesome trip!

They all do that sir, its their unique charm. Mine makes all sorts of strange ticking, rumbling noises sounds like the Vital Spark.

Thanks for the replies.

Anything else to look for on the lc?
I am aware of the clutch issue recall -- something to do with the pushrod.
I read something about front forks, alignment issues or something like that?
Any issues with stability at speed? Do they need a steering damper?
Any info appreciated.
Bought a twin cam recently to see how I liked the gs in general and now looking at the lc.
Cheers.

Not helped at the minute with Michelin Pilot Road 4 trail tyres fitted, in the heat they whine like buggery on certain road surfaces and road markings , so end up with a combination of howling tyres and the rattling engine.
Mind you mine is up to 11,500 miles and due a service at 12,000 which includes the tappets

They can't posibbly be worse than my Anakee 3s

I have had both tyres - yes they howl - but in reality, both probably the best feeling tyres I have used, especially in the wet. To me, infinitely better than the Tourance.

yea, mine is a noisy engine for a 2016 adventure.Befor the 1000 km mark it was quiet but now its a rattely beast.Real tappety noise at start up.i was a bit disappointed at this.

Sure the LC engine might be a tad noisier than say a jap crotch hyper missile, but trust me fellas its tomb silent compared to the 34 year old G/S airhead I ride every day. That truly is shocking noisy rattly (and mines a good one), people genuinley turn in the street in horror/disbelief and watch me ride past. Be thankful things have moved on in BMW world.....!
