My engine stalled & blew off the air intake on the RHS such that it dislodged the bottom C clip.
Trying to get it back on again whilst being out in the field was impossible.
Using zip ties (x 2) I managed to 'seal' it such that I could atleast drive to a garage to get it fixed.
They promptly fixed it by having to use 'tweezer ended' pliers to prize apart the strange C clip, replace the rubber house back in place & then re seat the C clip & do it back up again.
Not easy to do with the tools usually on board & when the engine is hot!

Has anyone else experienced this?

I know I'm going to get people saying ' you need to keep the revs up due to the fly wheel speed......,' however should we really need to be revving the engine when changing down that much?

I've had it stall a couple of times but never such that it blows off the air intake - that appears extreme?

Its just about to be serviced so they will hopefully see if there was anything strange with regards the running of it ie tick over or air/fuel mix - any other advise that I should request they look into other than ensuring they replace the C clip?

Happens to all Boxers - 1100/1150/1200 when you get a backfire, due to a flooded intake and spark

Get on with it

Slight blipping on downshifting aids re-entry

They shouldn't do that - take it to the dealer and get it checked out - I am assume that you aren't hitting the rev limiter each time you blip?

They do

Stall

Open the throttle (and allow fuel into a dead engine)

Hit Starter button

Backfire....Kaboom (due to flooded engine)

Inlet hose is blown off throttle body and/or cylinder inlet

Not difficult to make it happen .................or comprehend (for an engineer:D)

All efi Boxers have done it since 1994

If you stall, don't fucking open the throttle on a dead engine and flood it, before hitting the starter

I have heard of the older efi boxers doing it but never an LC until now????????

Why should a WC Boxer, be immune?

BTW there is only one LC and it was made by Yamaha

Ask anyone who rides bikes (has done for more than 5 years) - what was the LC and they'll all say a RD Yam

Yeah, yeah I know about LC 350s, I have been around for quite a long time :) maybe the more modern efi on the LC won't pour fuel in when you open the throttle after a stall??? Honestly don't know but never ever heard of an LC blowing off the intakes before now.

Try it tomorrow, deliberately stall and open the the throttle, then hit the starter button

Let me know what happens:D

Happened to my 06 GSA once during a Judgie tours trip to the Picos, I managed to put the inlet and clip back on at the roadside and carried on, it's never happened to any of my bikes since.

Rare, as you say

But not unheard of - given the wrong sequence of events (backfire)

Thank's for the knowledge shared, indicating that it is certainly not an uncommon occurance.
I obvioulsy need to 'blip' more on the throttle!

Why do they use c clips not jubilee clips?
Once the clip has been 'stressed' does it need repalacing - by all account the cost of a couple of quid so not expensive?

Tuning of the bike further I assume doesnt make any difference ie tick over or fuel/air mix?

Cheers again all.
