Le Bas Chesnay, Domfront, Normandy

Good point well made. There are various lanes around that are signposted no motorbikes and quads. Very much the same as a U.K. sign. Circular white background and red border.

It has been a learning process since arriving almost 5 years ago.

This looks very interesting, TY.
Just to clarify if I come over on my road legal, insured WR250R would I need to buy some sort of additional insurance to cover green laning in France?
How technical are the local lanes (I'm pretty incompetent) and how well marked are they please?
TY in advance,
CCC.

Decent accident insurance, should you need any assistance or repatriation of you and bike. Hopefully never needed, but obviously Brexit makes it more essential. You can still use an EHIC card.

The difference is the byways/Chemins are not counted as roads unlike the U.K. you do not need insurance, legal bike, and legal to ride a motorbike.

However you are obviously not permitted to ride on the tarmac. You sometimes see young lads on bikes riding the Chemins.

The Chemins are not signposted like in the U.K. Other than some have markers for mountain bike routes.

I am happy to show folks around. Some are extremely rocky, with challenging climbs. If I know anyone coming over is less experienced, then I adjust the routes accordingly. Due to the lack of roadwork you do a lot more standing up, which can tire you quickly.

I covered that more succinctly in post #50

It’s a non issue nowadays and I know people who take registered and non registered bikes in vans into Europe, weekly without issue, all the organising clubs, federations and the like are up to speed with the Border movement processes of regular vehicles and competition machinery

So, is the offical line you need to be riding the bike, and the unoffical one is that the border staff don't give a shit?

A mate of mine now keeps his track bike stored in Europe as post brexit it was a lot of aggro to get it transported, and I heard a lot of complaints of people being unable to do track days.

I though the Bike Shuttle services also hit problems, something to do with you cannot transport the vehicle without the owner present or you are importing it and have to pay duty or some other bullshit?

Anyway good to know I "probably" could take my bike to france in the back of a van as long as I was not trying to re-patriate a refugee at the same time ;-)

We have been blessed to have so many bikers and friends from road bike tours from many years ago.

This year there have been more improvements around the place.
