Lead times for ordering a 12?

Many dealers have stock and if they have the right spec (heated grips are IMHO essential, ABS is nice to have) and colour, they will switch seats/side panels between grey and black to suit your taste.

On Saturday 5th March, Balderston's in Peterborough were quoting the middle of June for a 'built to customer spec' machine.

However, there are plenty of ready built models in showrooms. Also, dealers can do 'swaps'. So if another dealer has an unsold / unallocated bike in the spec you want, your preferred dealer may well be able to get it...

Seems to vary then. If I go for one (am also considering the KTM) then I'll definitely want:

- ABS
- Heated grips
- Alarm
- Panniers

And possibly:

- Topbox
- Spoked wheels

Anyone got experience of the dealers in Scotland then?

Ordered mid-December, delivery was end of January, so nicely run in for the Spring!

I was also told by my dealer that the BMW alarm doesnt get you any insurance discounts as they havent cooperated with Thatcham, although whether or not you do with BMW Insurance who knows. Not that Id ever declare an alarm for a paltry discount as then you are meant to use it etc.
But I'm not sure third party alarms will work ok with the wiring system, but perhaps they do.

Anyhow, dealers do seem to have some stock. There's at least two in Bristol in yellow, one with spoked wheels.

When I insured my 12 through BMW insurance, the built in immobiliser was worth a discount of 7.5% and the optional alarm (which I have) was worth another 2.5% off.

Most other insurance companies won't even recognise the immobiliser, which is ironic as being factory fitted with a transponder key it's almost certainly far more secure than a 3rd party device.

You also have to remember that the BMW alarm is about 120 pounds when bought with the bike whereas a DataTool (for example) will set you back over 300 including fitting.

Agree - bought the BMW alarm when ordering the bike but no insurers recognise it.

Still worth having though, for when you park anywhere not secure.

I got the alarm with mine as it is quite cheap compared to datatool etc. It is also much nicer to use and doesn't auto set unless you want it to. However the movement sensor is very insensitive and probably wouldn't sound until it was in the back of a van 10 miles away.

I've got a blue/grey/grey on order form Motorrad Central in Glasgow for delivery late April, early May. I decided not to have the BMW alarm fitted for the reason you say above. 2.5% discount for an outlay of £120 gives a long payback time. Up here in Argyll, it certainly doesn't make economic sense!

Ordered mine 6 weeks ago for March 15th pick up but it has'nt even arrived at dealers yet i am eventually informed. Dealer not very good at keeping me posted.

I agree, the alarm does seem insensitive to movement. On the plus side, the alarm tell-tale light integrates very cleanly into the display.

You have to consider what you want the alarm for. Hopefully, the presence of an alarm acts as a deterrent to prevent little blaggers from nicking the thing in the first place. If it lifted and put into the back of a van the alarm, whatever it is, isn't going to make much difference.

Anyone bought a 1200GS recently or in the process of doing so?

If so, how long are they taking to deliver?

1200GS availability

Walked into Clarkes Dundee in December expecting summer delivery, was offered one still in the crate, grips,ABS, alarm, just the job.
Had it delivered for Xmas and just got it out to play this past 2 weeks - still smiling.
I have returned to the dealer for bits and a chat, always made welcome and they seem to have lots of bikes available.Speak to Allan Dalziel at Clarks, he'll sort you a bike out.

Just got back from Rainbow in Rotherham..

They've advised me that to order now would approximate an early june delivery, and they only have two for then!!!

SPC have stock!

Ordered my 12 from SPC last Thursday... I'm getting it this Wednesday!!

They seem to have plenty of 'reserved' stock at the moment (they could do any colour, and no problem with alarm or ABS choices).

Can't believe I finally did it, after dreaming all winter. :) :D :thumb :upyou

Dreamer no more.......
