Leak from final drive

Hi i have noticed a leak from the rear wheel / final drive. It is round teh black plastic thing round the hollow rear wheel on teh right hand side.
Noticed it when we got back from a tour.
Any ideas what the pronlem could be?
Its a 2007 with about 26k miles on the clock.

There's an oil seal behind the plastic cover. Drill a small hole in the seal, screw a self tapping screw in it and pull the old one out, then tap in a replacement.

You could also try the other method of sliding a thin plastic piece under the seal and wiping the inner surface of the seal, as it may be caused by a piece of grit caught between the surfaces.

BTW, you would be better off posting in the hexhead section.
 
With 26K on a 2007, and dripping from the seal, id be tempted to say the rear drive unit is borked.

My 2006 failed at 24K , its quite common.

The good news is, if you contact Mikeyboy from this parish , he can asses and rebuild if required

BTW the cost of of a new unit is eyewatering !

If it is borked, dont go down the ebay route, chances are that will be a borked unit as well
