I have ordered a new BMW R1200GS TE
I was surprised to find that when it was going through its PDI there was an oil leak from the ESA suspension unit at the front
I was surprised because you don't expect this on a brand new bike
I can only assume that it wasn't apparent at the factory but during shipping with the front end compressed it brought on the leak
A new one was ordered and they were due to fit today - but would you believe that either the wrong one was ordered (my new bike is factory lowered) or the wrong one sent but a standard height one arrived and it didn't fit!!!
Either way my new bike will now be delayed for a few days
Not sure I like the idea of the front of my new bike having been stripped down before I receive it - not sure how big a job it is to fit this new unit?

Not good from BMW? I had a K1600GT before this and had no problems with that

At least they spotted it before it was handed over to you.

Swapping front suspension is not a big job - done it on the old Hex heads a few times and I would not wory about it.

Enjoy the bike when you get it :beerjug:

Thanks Paul - that's made me feel better if it's not too much of a job to install
Really looking forwards to the LC - the K1600GT was awesome but too heavy for me
When I test drove the LC I had a stupid grin on my face the whole ride !!

Yes, i do them quite often, I keep a boat near Tattenhall so the trip back and forth is getting more and more varied as i discover different ways.

First one I've heard of on here! Great bike enjoy.

Ah Tattenhall - that brings back good memories, I knocked about with a few lads that lived there who were all petroheads and we devised a timed circuit from Tattenhall down to Gatesheath then back to Tattenhall the other way so it was a circular route
We all set off separately on bikes and in cars and we were timed around the route
Anyway I had a 500 Suzuki and was going really well until I got past Gatesheath and turned the corner and went over the hump back bridge - problem was I was trying so hard I completely forgot about the right hand bend after the bridge - ended up going through the hedge and into the field !!! Ended up in Chester Royal Infirmary but lived to tell the tale
Oh to be young and stupid again !!

don't worry about….. the rear suspension on mine was stripped down due to apparent excessive movement on the rear shock! its all warrantied after all.

Its not like the engine is being removed, broken up and and repaired. Its just a suspension unit held on with a couple of bolts and a magic electric multi plug. All will be fine.

That's what the PDI is for, well done to BMW for finding the fault, simple procedure, just a shame the wrong part was sent out.

Enjoy your fab bike soon, and you'll keep on grinning from ear to ear!

Thanks for the nice welcome

Thanks to all on this thread for the best wishes to enjoy the new bike
I have to say that I am really impressed with the forum
Much better than the K1600 site

Cheers

Thats the first question I was going to ask you bob . I have a factory lowered wc but always throw my leg over a 1600gt in the showroom ,but havent had the balls yet to take it out for a test drive due to the worry about the weight I still struggle now even with the wc pushing it around the place .hope you got a good trade in for the gt

Hi Stevie
I loved the K1600 - it was sports bike performance and really comfortable, went to Italy on it last year and it was great and the missus loved it too
The only problem was having to move it around or when for example you pull into somewhere you are not familiar with and maybe the camber is going away from you, it's quite stressful particularly 2 up worrying about dropping it
The added problem for me is that I have a dodgy hip and have just had a hip replacement and I always new in the future I would downsize, so rather than having the K1600 sitting in the garage depreciating whilst I was recovering, I thought I would cut my losses and bring the more suitable bike forward
Yes I did get a good price because it was a 2013 model in that nice Montego blue

BMW had a powered center stand option on one of their bikes. Handy but total over kill.

All these big bikes need is a linked cable operated side stand on both sides. Pull the lever to drop the stands then no worries about dropping the bike. Simples but never done for some reason.

The usual narrow thinking I'm a hard biker picture.

But is it really so silly on a bike weighing more than 4 adults and costing £20,000

By the way that's a centre stand on a Jap bike so it would break

Well..... Still waiting one week on
New suspension unit still not arrived from BMW and now looking at middle of next week
Not a great start by BMW
Can't wait to fill in the customer satisfaction form

Things can only get better as they say.....

I've no doubt if they had the parts you needed, you would have got it by now! They can't give you what they haven't got.

I'd hope the dealer would soften the disappointment of a late delivery, just a little. A free service or something sounds about right.
