Leaking rear shock

The rear shock on my 2006 R1200GS has given up the ghost.

Well I guess it had to happen at some point and I suppose I should be grateful for small mercies in that it happened in my garage.

I know these bikes and spares/parts are not cheap but what the fuck? A new OEM shock from BMW costs £791 (inc vat)

I did consider alternative aftermarket upgrades from various respected manufacturers such as Ohlins, Wilbers etc but these are all too pricey so now looking for an original used part.

Give Firefox Racing a shout and enquire about their YSS brand. I put one on my bike a few months ago, I no idea about longevity but performance wise...... It's a fine shock.

Send it to ABE in Greenwich. They'll service/regas/new oil and seals, like new for £130ish

Hagon are the cheapest new but the Wilbers are better kit. Steppers won't recommend rubbish. There's also MCT in Newmarket.

Recently fitted Fournales air shocks to my 06, and I am well impressed.
Cheaper than oe but much better ride.

I'm weighing up the possibility of Wilbers. But there are issues. Ride height -15mm, -50mm and -80mm leave a gaping gap in the range. -25mm is likely to be what I need. Sadly nobody else makes an ESA compatible shock.

Hagon on the other hand seem to offer pretty much whatever you want, but they dont have anything compatible with the ESA system. I have Hagons on the Suzuki. They made what's alleged to be a evil handling bike into a something really quite nice as long as I remember the slow steering angle.

Firefox did a great job on mine and shipped it to France to boot!

It is the "affordable" solution!

I had mine repaired at Kais in Atherton after it gave up the ghost. Shortly afterwards I got a set of Ohlins for a good price off here, so the original, repaired shock is in my loft somewhere if you're interested
