took my plugs out the other day and the left one has clearly been running lean, the other side looks spot on. what could this be?:nenau

Means you have to turn the mixture regulating screw ( underneath carb ) clockwise ( to richen the mixture on that carb ) by a quarter of a turn..then check colour of plug again ( after a long run ) :thumb2

check to see if your balancing plug under the carb as not lost its cap or screw making it weak?.
Also check your inlet rubber for cracks etc or maybe come loose?.

all the rubbers etc. are good. i thought the mixture adjust screw was just for the idle mixture and the rest had to be done with re jetting, i thought that would rule out it being the cause of my torched plug:nenau i have tried adjusting it and it didnt help and is set to were it idles best which is pretty much the same as the other side and what is recommended by bing. turn and a quarter i seem to remember.
the jets are obviously the same. cant get my head round it.

OK..we now know the mixture is OK...and all the carb rubbers etc are OK ( btw they can still crack and be hard to spot even when fully tightened)?

Have you been fiddling with it to maybe cause this fault or did it just start to occur on its own?

Obviously both plugs are the correct ones ( simple theories first) ?

Maybe try emptying the float bowl of the 'weak' running carb and filling it from an aerosol with carburettor cleaner. Then turn over engine to see if any minor blockage is flushed away! Worth a try before you have to dismantle the carb etc.
