Lean.......

Had the Remus front system / std end can on the bike for a month or so now. Much improved throttle response , bit better noise etc.....

Popped it on the dyno. Halfway thru off it came . Fuel / air mix 16:1 dyno operator not happy to continue with it as he felt too lean.

Left it as you do. Took it too my mates dyno in Stevenage. This time 15.7 : 1 , he recommended going back to std and await the Wunderlich fuelling upgrade.

So ordered up a plug spanner from local dealer just check state of plugs. Still waiting .... so off the system came , only 1hrs job with a cuppa.

Now I know a few people are running full systems , and I assume an end can only won't have the same impact of fuel/air as the front pipes/cat removal , but has anyone found their bike this lean with exhaust mods , is it normal , am I being a wuss ???

This post came in while I was away on me hols so I missed it.

I've got the full shebang and the plugs are just right.

It'll be interesting to see what BMW think about this issue as I believe they are quite happy for their dealers to fit full Remus systems.

I have Prestige's demo bike at the moment, whilst mine is getting a new rear disc fitted and it has a remus system on it...it feels a lot smoother than mine but not sure if I'd want to live with the noise...

What's up with your rear disk, mines in today for a new one because the original was out of spec and was catching the pads.

I've left mine standard as I remember reading about BIKE's long-term test bike running very lean when they put a system on it. Of the different systems they tried only one (I forget the make) actually made significantly more power. They may have been testing just the end cans but it seemed to be a lot of money for such measly gains and the added hassle of the extra noise.

What's up with your rear disk, mines in today for a new one because the original was out of spec and was catching the pads.

my rear disc was showing excessive signs of wear, which they agreed to change...they think it must;ve been dragging on the pads at some stage.

I have ordered a full remus system with my new bike.I will have it on the first of the month all being well.It is being fitted from day one.
My dealer is fitting it and they say there are no issuse so long as the sensors are in the y piece.Apparently bmw are happy with this.I addressed my concerns about it running lean and they say there are no issues.I have warranty so it will be up to them when it goes bang.
I have pointed out many probs with this set up and they say i am being over cautious.
Watch this space as my freind has a dyno,so as soon as it is run in i will post the results.
OR the pics of the engine in bits,whichever comes first!!!!

Mind you my GS is on its second gearbox and second final drive so may be you'll be right after all

I just came from a two and half year nightmare with a harley.To say that my confidence in bike quality and dealer knowledge has taken a nose dive is an understatement.
I have to be re-enlightened.
I was feeling quite upbeat until i went to the dealer this morning to see my new bike.
Here is your bike sir "looks good doesn't it?"
Err no thats not what i ordered!!!
"yes it is"
No!This has abs and no remus system!!!!
Oh we put the wrong plates on this bike!!!!!!!!!!
DOH!!!
At least i got a free can of coke from them.
I'll try for a cup of coffee next time.

I think in the long run fitting an Akrapovic exhaust would cost just the same... If you fit a remus and it is running lean by the time you've had the fueling set up it'd end up costing the same as the Akra... Also the Akra will hold its price better and make more power(at a guess). After reading RIDE again and seeing the results between the Remus and Akra it seems you do get what you pay for. Maybe buying the remus is a false economy? The BOS full system also seems to make more power than the Remus for the same cash........

I strongly suspect that IF the full Remus system de-restricts the 1200 enough to make it run lean then so will the Akro and the BOS systems.

It's maybe time for some enterprising individual to come up with a connector to clag a laptop (complete with fuelling software) into the 1200.

Why wait for a Power Commander with O2 sensors when the bike already has them?

yep, I agree with what you're saying, however ride magazine tested both and the Akra is spot on, maybe they spent more time on development which is why they want such an huge amount of cash for it. I'd like to see all the full systems tested back to back on the same dyno with air/fuel results to see how they compare!

Saying that at the min i'd kill for a decent can!

If the akra was a single can would get one straight away.But i think it is ugly.No matter how well it goes ugly it is!!
Single can i'll buy it.It looks like a scooter tail peice with two cans!!!!
