After endless faults and listening to Indians reading from scripts I've decided to move to Zen. I know that I can continue using my BTinternet.com e-mail by paying for their premium service but, if I choose not to, does it stop immediately - or is there a period of grace?

You can log in online and retrieve them online

If I remember correctly with my Dad's one its now a hookup with BT Yahoo

But even that may be outdated now

They will only delete the account if it is inactive for 30 days - quite clear here http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/...happens to email when I stop having broadband

What I have done for legacy email accounts is to set up a Gmail account which accesses the old email account via the POP3 settings. I set it so that Gmail deletes the email from the old server when it imports an email. This stops the old email account filling up with a billion emails. This is just like setting up the account to use Outlook or Livemail etc.

I have legacy accounts from tesco.net and Tiscali that are still going despite not using their ISP for over a decade.

Very useful to know, thanks.

Thanks all. FWIW, don't try this with Virgin - it stops working with no option to continue. They do give you 30 days notice though.

Yes same happened to me years ago when I left bt. I was amazed that they wanted to charge you to retain your mail address.

I changed over to sky and have @icloud.com address. Never had any problem to speak of with the sky service, but thats just my experience.

If you want to keep your BT email address it's £5/month - I just checked

D

The premium service is only £1.60 a month. They tried to put it up to £5/month but if you contact them and complain they drop it back down again.

Really ?
You were amazed that they didn't want to carry on providing you with an email service and virtually unlimited storage for free?

To AberdeenAngus, perhaps amazed could be substituted with surprised. To answer your apparent disbelief. There are similar services provide free, I know I have two separate ones.

If anybody wants to pay for something you can have for free well thats their choice.

Some may like the monthly price I pay, I find it attractive for some reason.
