Led back light modification

I am after advice on how to modify my 1200gs adv tail light into a new led light from a later model.

I have the light, plug and have modded the wiring harness but am getting only half of the light working at any one time either the top half or the bottom half - but works on stop and tail.

Confused - so am I

I believe there is a BMW wiring harness that does the change so all works I did find a thread either on here or ADV rider about it. Going to do it myself this winter once I have the said harness.

Update on my original post there is a BMW wiring harness to do the upgrade taking in account the dreaded lampR within the can bus


It is part no 71 60 7 712 418 and is an eye watering £44 tell you over the winter if it works.

Led tail light

Better off asking BMW for the repair plug at a cost of £8 same as the repair kit minus the cable ties and connectors. Is the BMW kit different hen to what I am thinking of?

I connected all mine up and could only get either the top of the led light to work or the bottom but not at same time and only using one cable and earth......

Fitted the led indicators no problem and no issues......

Any help would be appreciated.....
