The Touratech front guard is worthwhile for branch/big stone protection, but it WILL reduce light output from this fabulous LED lamp plus a well aimed small stone will sneak through the guard.
The LED lamp is bordered by a £14 plastic casing, held on with four T10 torx screws:
I asked my dealer yesterday if the front plastic cover is sacrificial and he studied his parts fiche and was sure that it was all part of the £800+LED unit.
I am sure and hope that he is wrong.
I now see that the plastic front is NOT part of the whole sealed unit: it can clearly be removed by levering one tab at the top and one at the bottom and without daring to try, I'll bet that it is easily removed:
I hope that my dealer is wrong (he is a nice guy but he couldn't find a black screen so he doesn't know everything).Does anyone know if BMW will supply this plastic front, or better still the part number?
IF it is available, then there is no need for any alternative protective devices IMHO
