Has anyone fitted an LED headlamp to a GS 1100 or 1150? I’m in the market for one of these bikes but the lights are so poor…….
or do I go the big F off spotlight route connected to high beam?
TIA
Richie

Many routes to go. I went for a couple of Denali D4's which are on all the time and super bright on main beam but honestly, the dipped brightness is great for all occasions. Super happy with them.

Not sure whether the aftermarket LED headlamp can fitted to these like the 1200's . If so I'd be interested, Anyway on my 1150 I fitted one of those Osram /Phillips super bright bulbs to the headlamp and together with spots like bandare says are perfectly good enough

I fitted a pair of Katur led headlight bulbs, removing oem covers and replacing with rubber domes bought from eBay.

Same here. I fitted the lamps with Supaseal connectors and fitted the same to the old Halogen lamp holders so that I could do a quick swop come MOT time if required. Bike has gone through the last few MOT's without having to do that. Also fitted a couple of cheap LED's to use as DRL's

I have a set of d4 denalis fitted too but these burn the retinas out of anyone approaching and I find I don't use them so much now I have the Katur led bulbs.

I have a dual HID set up on my 1150. Plus a powerful pair of spotlights which are about to be upgraded. :D
The main beam has a fast ballast so there no delay on flash / main beam. I got the kit from Les Wassel off this forum but I think he’s stopped doing them now. :nenau A massive improvement over the standard lights. :thumb2

I used to have a similar setup, but now they’re illegal they won’t pass an MOT where I live. I have LED bulbs lbs and a pair of hella FF50s connected to the main beam via a relay.

I've been told that using LED bulbs with the current lenses is super bright but distributes the light in a very poor way for visibility of the road ahead. This is why the Polish link above changing the lenses for LED bulbs works so well.

How are you finding the bulb change?

I’m in the middle of trying to fit LED bulbs to my 1150. The beam is good (judged against the garage wall - same pattern as with regular bulbs) and they’re definitely much brighter. But @quaycrest do you have a link to the rubber domes you used please? The fans are the problem in terms of using the original caps:

I can’t imagine leaving the backs of the lights open to the elements is going to be healthy.

Need to rewire too so I’m not dependent on the original caps to connect everything up. It’ll mean it’s a less easily reversible conversion but fingers crossed the MoT will be OK.

These are from LEDPerf in France. Bought sidelight and taillight bulbs too.

It’s been working fine for the last 5yrs, passes MOT every year when they check the beam pattern/spread but I needed to rotate the bulb until the pattern was right.

Stupid question alert…. The fan needs to be outside of the waterproof seal, right? Meaning the seal isn’t actually preventing all water ingress.

I bought the 65mm ones but measure your own ones just to be sure. I cut a hole in the rubber domes for the wiring to go through and hoping that vents the fan although these bulbs are designed for closed headlamp units.

Interesting to hear. I know you can get it past the MOT okay but was told the actual beam is not great but a lovely white light :)
I guess that's not the case. Makes sense to turn the bulb.
