A little while ago I posted about creating LED indicators for the 1150. Nippynorman does a pair for £50 quid but there is one flaw:

They are crap.

The reason for this is cost; they use only 20 LED's per indicator and have spread them too far apart so that the LED's are ineffective.

From studying the back of a Scania bus  at the way it's done there, I decided to modify my original design. I had intended to do a large strip spanning the width of the indicator. This took over 30 LED's and was very bright, but it left the upper and lower segments a little dim and was a pain to fit.

My next idea reduced the LED count to 27 and patterned it in the shape of the chromed LED insert part. This resulted in a more complete light pattern and is much easier to mount.

Indeed this design works so well I've decided to mount two additional indicators below the front originals. I'm replacing the LED's with 12000mcd white units with clear fronts and wiring to the sidelamp (which will be dewired).

If anybody has a spare indicator (I need the black part and chrome part but not the front) can you please get in touch so I can complete this project. I'll give full details on how to do the process yourself.

Indicator cost (for four) is around £20.
Front white LED units cost is around £7

Hi

Will your led indicators work with my signal minder??

as i use my indicators on reduced light for running lights?

your indicators look great

would be intrested if they will work.

Stevenage Area, so local ish

What you have it set-up like the Americans?

The indicators need a resistor on the back which would work but this is energy inefficient and at least one voltage regulator to keep constant V.

I've looked into modding the indicator relay board instead but this is surfaced mounted technology and fully electronic on the 1150 and isn't something that can be easily done. I'd have to figure it's circuit for a start. Might do a cheap 555 timer replacement but I'd need to get hold of an old indicator relay from a 1100/50.

Are you planning on posting the instructions for the new design you have made.

Im also struggling to spot the old post you reffered to, can you please link to it?

Alright I'll take the camera home and run a few off.

All four failed on a recent trip to Scotland. I used steel strand wire that fractures under vibration and copper solved this. No problems so far and very bright.

I decided to take the resistors off and this causes the lights to flash fast. I've not been stopped by police and it doesn't look so bad since they are on/off very quickly (not like a bulb). That said I'd like to modify the original surface mount indicator board, but Delphi haven't emailed back despite my lie of being a Dakar competitor :D .

LED fog lights didn't really do much since I've got HIDS and I removed them.

My boards are as bright as the standard set-up. Don't think any other boards can claim that.

Great work I like the idea of bright front running lights, any help to stop tin cans trying to knock me off my Beamer !!:thumb

That's why I always ride with the Hella Micro DE foglights on.

The led-turnsignals look great. Any pictures comparing them to the original (21W bulb)

Ah I've took them off to get the bike back to standard for selling. Will show you them when I fit to my DR650
