I came across a post on another forum about the LEDpac FRONT SAFETY LIGHT (copy below) available from Nippy Normans e.g. R1200GS version (here).
Looks like a really nice bit of kit and appears effective from what 'sid' says and Shenzi's post on this forum here: Ledpac, practical bling! (some more good photos on his post as well)
NN sell them for £149 + P&P!!!!

So, to the point of this thread.....to guage interest in units like these if we could get them made for sale here at a more reasonable cost. Our very own 'Techno' has the xeperience/capability on the electronics/LED side of things and I know a guy who might be interested in machining up some nice ally casings (or there may be a forum member who could do this?). I've PM'd Rob ('Techno') and will speak to the guy I know re the alloy bit at the weekend.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED...
Post in this thread with:
1) What bike you have AND the year (1200GS, 1150GS etc)
2) Maximum pricepoint at which you would buy

Finally, here's the post I mentioned from another forum:

However much of a sixth sense you can muster when filtering on these dark, wet mornings and evening - we can always do with a bit of assistance!

Since Mr Audi started sticking LED's on the front of his motors and the Europrats will soon start sticking DRL's on the fronts of all cars, we need all the help we can get....

so have invested in a LEDpac from Mr Nippy Norman.

Kit comes with everything needed - longer bolts for the fork braces, spacers, clips to fasten the cable to the brake pipe - even comes with piggy back electrical connectors. Darned good show Mr Nippy!

Fitted LED pack looks subtle and discrete.

And the finished product looks different enough to catch attention which was the intention!
I reckon 3 times more sleepers - sorry, motorists - notice me following the dotted line between Lanes 2 and 3 of stationary tin boxes on the M60 every day.

Good result. Except now the headlight looks really YELLOW. Need a HID kit now!!! :(
I'll get a better piccie of the finished product when time permits.

ciao!!

I just love LED lights - does that make me odd?
Anyway 1150 GS. dunno what price but a lot less than £145 ..

Does the 'bulb holder' have to be ally??

I know of a couple of POS equipment manufacturers that use CNC for machining 'plastics'
and i'll use the word 'plastics' cos i ain't that sure what they do use!

Lexan, Polycarbonate, Polyethylene ????

anybody got a LedPac that we could 'analyse' :)

Good point, I imagine there would be a pretty large saving on cost...

Black Delrin ( acetal ) :thumb

Why didn't I think of this! :blast
Delrin is perfect for the job, very hard/tough (hence use for crash bungs), can be 'machined' just like ally and possible to get a nice looking finish.

universal one would be of interest, as the 1150 already has foglamps fitted. No one seems prepeared to mention a price, but £145 for 3 LEDS was so way over the top, I'm seriously surprised anyone parted with their cash.

I'd say £50 max:augie Even then, I'd still be considering something from a car accessory shop. I had some blue LEDs sourced from God knows where on the screeen of a bike I used to have. These actually threw a beam, and were probably about £10 the pair.

yup Im interested too but £145 is too much. R1150GSA 2004. I already have technos led tail light and indicator inserts too and can vouch for quality, they are top notch :thumb2

Biker

R1200GS, and always prepared to part with some cash if it makes us more visible on the road, like previously stated considerable less than the price of Nippy Normans, cheers,

Stupidly overpriced for something so simple. £50 would even be OTT I think. Do these actually sell?

1150, interested but waaaay too dear, ps techno does white leds for the front indicators, cheaper an just as effective, if not more

Thanks for this and similar suggestions/links from others people BUT no comparison to the type of unit we are talking about here ;-)

I'm talking about a robust quality item that will look great with a housing milled/CNC machined from billet aluminium or Delrin that might look like a pukka BMW accessory.

The unit will be fitted with 3 high-power LED’s (not the cheap bicycle type jobbies you get on fleabay)

The necessary electronics will be completely sealed in resin (and so REALLY will be waterproof)

For those that want them (i.e. optional) there will be stainless steel mounting brackets specific to your bike model (no need for BlueTack, sellotape, bail twine etc:-)

Lets call a halt to this thread for the moment, with the benefit of hindsight I think it would be better for me to get some idea of what the final cost might be before we go any further (i.e. parts/materials, cost of milling the housing, manufacture of brackets, assembly of electronics etc)

Halfrauds

I was browsing the motorcycle section at my local Halfrauds and spotted a set of LED light bars white for the front and red for the rear all for £19.99 including brackets, they just needed plumbing in.

Looked a bargain to me!
