Riddle me this.....
If you have "white" LEDS they would (I assume) emit all frequencies of light, red being part of their spectrum ?
If you have red LEDS they (mainly) emit the red part of the spectrum ?
Now, if you put a red lens over a red LED ( in theory, a red filter blocks all other frequencies other than red ) you would get close to100% transmission...wouldn't you ????
Why then do I see in Nippy Normans that a red lens should not be used with red LEDS ????
I obviously am missing something here, can anyone elaborate....
Reason I ask is that I like the added intensity but don't like the "boy racer" image of clear lenses. I know the later versions had/have clear as stock but "I" (just one persons viewpoint here) think it makes the bike look "cheap"...

In discussions with Norman I am told to expect illumination better than the stock bulb with the stock red lens fitted ( good enough for moi) & have placed an order. Why Norman instead of a "cheaper" vendor ? Unsurpassed service & quality of product....
Or if you're a tight fisted git there's a thread around somewhere showing roughly how to fit some hyper bright LED strips from Maplin, might be in the tech section

Installation complete... Apart from being "brilliant", I like the attention getting "visual snap" of LEDS......
I simply put 4 red Leds in the reflector. 2 wired to the brake light and teh other 3 wired to the tail light. Works perfectly and if the bulb blows I still have the LEds for both brake and tail lights.
Instead of the red fading to the outside of the lens the whole lens is the same intensity. Put on the brake light and its like the coca cola christmas advert!
Yep, well NN lights look great but I cannot justify that sort of money!!!!!!
So I have also modified my rear light unti to add LEDs so that if (when) the rear bulb blows, the leds still provide light, altho' didnt feel it worth while to include brake light leds!
parts cost me around £10, for the leds, from

who also supplied the resistor ballasts needed for leds.
wiring was relatively easy, using the leds anode and cathode themselves and simply daisy chaining them as can be seen from the photos!
drilling the plastic light carrier for the leds require a 5mm drill and ability to measure reasonably accurately to obtain a fairly circular eefect around the existinmg light bulb and also avoid the strengthening ribs on the back of the light...its a doddle really!!
OR you could just pay £60 ish to buy one!

I also acknowledge that I stole the concept from the excellent wide running lights thread, from a while back, adapted to "just do" the rear light being a lazy so and so! so search on that for more great detail and see who had the orginal idea

i did this, but its so bright, i think i may have to take out the origonal bulb, i don't have abs or the bulb monitor thingy, what i also did, is fit a set of the led strips in my top box, well 3 sets, two as stop lamps and one as side lamps, into thw red central bit of my givi top box, looks awsome

I meant the top box thing as I have a kappa 48 with a lot of red plastic lens begging for something bright behind it other than me
I did spend quite a long time going over past threads but without much luck

An alturnative to LED's
For many years now I have changed my standard tail/brake light for a deceleration modulator by Kisan.
The manufactures says "TailBlazer overcomes this by rapidly flashing the taillights the instant you apply the brakes. The flash rate then slows down to a steady ON - this cycle lasts about 4 seconds. This flash pattern is called a Deceleration Warning."

I dont know if its legal in the UK so have a read and make up your own mind.
