...for front and rear to fit behind your clear lenses on your 1150GS.

Having seen the price of those sold by NN I decided to make my own. Not that I am tight, but £29 for 8 LEDs and 2 resistors is taking the mickey. (mine will be 28.99!! :augie )

The ones from the nippy bloke have only one setting (I think) but mine have two so you can have:

RED for the rear - use them as running lights / brake or running lights / fog.

WHITE for the front - Either full on or dim, or switch between the two.

The circuit allows for dual brightness using high intensity LEDs consuming around 240mA for each unit (of 8 LEDS) at full intensity and less than 2mA on low. The LEDs are intended for automotive use so are suited to this application.

Just thought I would see if anyone was interested in any while I have the etch tank full :)

They will be hand made by me, from design, etching, assembly and testing so turn around might take a while depending on my day job.

Not sure of the price yet but will be per pair of either RED or WHITE, it really depends on the interest. If enough of you want them I may get the boards professionally made to make it quicker.

Will post some pictures of them fitted soon. But here they are being tested:

I hate cutting loom wiring, so these will hopefully piggyback the rear light fitting using spade connectors. Fitting instructions will be supplied.

I have also made an LED tail/brake light unit for the 1150GS - as that is what I have. It is for IBS/non IBS (switchable possibly) and has 32 of the same LEDs on it. Same brightness so will match the indicator LEDs. Just need time to get it off the breadboard onto a circuit board.

After that some LED indicators maybe?

Let me know your interest it those too. :)

I have a 1200GS and am looking to do the mod that someone else did on here - i.e using the NN read LED indicator inserts (with the additional Red Brake Light LED's, and changing the Red Led's to White. The aim is to then fit them in the front (with clear indicator lenses) and therefore have some additional 'marker' lights - they're not going to provide any reall ilumination, but will help to 'be seen'.

Is this something you could make? I'd be very interested.

I have been kicking around the idea of LED indicator conversion with a few white LEDs in the front as running lights and red LEDs in the rear as tail lights and brake lights as well. I don't know whether it's better to have two different brightnesses of red LEDs or to have a circuit that gives two levels of brightness. I'm not knowledgeable enough about electronics to get it together though so it probably won't happen.

I've also seen integrated LED rear lights that have stop & tail lighting and indicators as well. I asked if they have any plans to do one for the F650 GS and R1200 GS but they said they hadn't.

Perhaps you might look into doing something like this? I'd definately be interested.

Definately interested in a rear stop light set up for the 1150 and also the indicator set up.

Very interested in two sets of Amber panels to act a indicators (single bright intensity) to go behind clear lenses....:thumb

I would also be interested in these for a 1200

for 1200...

dlevett,

Are you referring to the 'Red Baron' type ones? With a RED stripe down the middle? Shouldn't be too dificult to re-work for white. Quite pricey aren't they.

The indicator inserts (to replace the whole bulb) will be coming soon as I want them for mine. Because of the shape they will take a bit longer to make but will either have a horizontal strip through the middle or two vertical ones down the sides.

I wanted the runing lights on the front for mine for the purpose of visibility too. They are not as bright as the headlight, but might invoke a double take before the SMIDSY incident!

The rear ones can't be too bright as it would be like driving with fog lights on - which is not nice. I will be hooking mine up as standard running lights with the brake connected too, but when I turn on the front fogs, the rears illuminate at max brightness regardless of whether I am braking or not. The fronts will be on dim to start and I will see how I go.

I will post some pictures when I have fitted these behind the lenses, hopefully later today as I want them in for the weekend.

Of course, if someone has a 1200 indicator housing they want to donate it might help R&D. timeandtide :augie

CoolCarbon,

Did you mean you wanted these panels in amber to complement your indicators or replace? You could have them in Amber running light config like the USA, then full on when you indicate. If you want to replace then a 25W load resistor is needed. I can get amber, but have to order from the USA at the moment :(

No plans to do the tail/brake indicator at the moment. Simple enough to do, it is just time.

Flipfly I will let you know when they are ready. :thumb

Keep you in mind with the 650 housing. Let me clear the decks with the 1150 stuff first :)

anyone tried project R? they do a rear 1150 clear lense and leds for 34 quid complete, think they do indicators too,,,,i got the light an lense, seems same as nippys but half as cheap

I have been looking at getting some Rear Foglights for the 12 GSA after a near rear ender on the A303 last week, Could you adapt yours so that I could wire them into the rear light? If so, please put me down for a pair!

As an aside I use these :http://www.speeding.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000099.cgi?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fspeeding%2eco%2euk%2f&WD=ice%20lights&SHOP=%20&PREVQUERY=SS%3dice%2blights%26Submit2%3dSearch%26PR%3d%2d1%26TB%3dA%26SHOP%3d%20&PN=Spot___Fog_Lamps%2ehtml%23a191#a191
on the front , They are just brilliant (literally) for only One Watt, you get a hell of a cut through next to the HID's .

Project R just do the lense for 28.99 then upgrade to LED for 11.99. Doesn't show what it is though - might just be an LED bulb like the types on ebay. Got anymore info? No point re-inventing the wheel.

Anyway, this strip to put into the indicator not an indicator replacement. Is a running light brake light and/or fog depending on how you wire it.

Will do the 1200 ones soon, but need an inticator to check sizing.

Rob

I am interested in any LED lighting. But what I really need at the mo, and cant find at any price (despite the fact that several US suppliers claim to have them) is a pair of LED rear Fogs.

the rear lights are complete for 34.99 if u mail em ,the leds are a plate, same as nippy normans,i bought one,its fine

I bought a small tail light from a local supplier and stuck a LED bulb in it to use as a fog light. I'll try and find some details of pricing and pictures later.

Yes, that's what I meant....

I already have some running lights within the lens housing, just want 4 panels with bright amber LEDs and suitable load so the flasher unit will work at the correct rate...Do-able..:nenau

I know there are a lot of LED mods out there - both on here and comercially. I am not saying mine are better and you all must have them, just that they are available if you are interested.

I havent finished the tail light yet (which has the stuff for IBS). If I get time I will try and assemble and fit it toady.
Not even started on the indicators - they have curves which will be difficult for me to make, so I might not bother :(

For now, if anyone is interested in the running/brake/fog lights for the original 1150GS clear indicators, let me know. I am just off to take some pictures of them fitted.

Updated Pictures

Here are the LED panels fitted.

Rear tail (with prototype tail/brake hanging off! - NOTE - 8 LEDs are missing from this test cct; they are same intensity as the inserts.)
