LED tail and indicators

I have also retrofitted the BMW rear LED light assembly (i.e. tail and brake lights), also without problems. By all means pay a dealer to fit them if you want but there is no need for specialist reprogramming.

Peter, would you be able to dig out the part numbers and price? My local dealer is waiting for the part number for the extra lead that sits between the LED assembly and the bike's loom.

I bought the tailight and lead from Boxer design in Germany. I don't have the part number, sorry. The lead was a genuine BMW part which spliced in to the bike's wiring just like the LED indicators.

BMW LED Indicators:

The extra leads are not needed on the '08 GSA - straight into the connectors that the old ones are removed from.

I don't know about the '08 GS.

... I added an extra LED tail light using Nippy's LED strip.
... Switched, via a PIAA waterproof switch by the speedo and indivdually relay controlled from an under-seat, relay-switched, Centech fuse panel.

Phoned Bahnstormer today after I realised they'd left a message on my mobile 3 weeks ago!:blast

The retrofit kit for fitting the BMW LED rear light cluster is now available at £106 + about half an hours workshop time (marked up as dealer supply and fit only)

More than NN's LED but I think much nicer looking and made for the bike.

I did look but they're out of stock :(

If you are changing both the indicators and the taillight to the new LED design, you are (with hindsight) probably better off getting a new rear loom instead of three special leads. The rear lights connect to the main loom via a connector under the pillion seat. Rather than cutting off the ends of the old loom and splicing in three new adaptor leads (LH and RH indicator and tailight) you could buy a new rear loom for a 2008 all-LED bike, which should simply plug in the connector under the pillion seat and then into the LED lights. Will be much quicker and neater, provided the expense is not prohibitive. I would do this if starting from scratch.

Problems in OZ

I have been looking around for an LED tail/brake light for ages now for my late 07 GS. Unfortunately I have been told by all suppliers that due to the CanBus changes in the 2007 model none of the aftermarket LED’s will work without a light failure warning showing.
Has anyone successfully fitted an LED tail/brake light to a 2007 without having to go to a dealer for reprogramming? If so where to buy the LED?

The fitting kit I got was not item 2 as per your diagram. If you look carefully you will see that item 2 has the old non-LED spade connectors that connect directly to the bulb holders. The rear indicator fitting kit is two extra leads (one per corner) that you splice onto to the end of the existing loom (i.e. item 2) after cutting off the spade connectors. The tail light fitting kit is just the same, i.e. a lead you splice onto item 2.

My suggestion was that there must be a part number for a new LED-friendly item 2 with all the right connectors. You can then just buy the two rear LED indicators and the LED tail light and literally plug everything together, no splicing and no surplus cable to tidy up. Provided they don't charge an arm and a leg for the cable of course...

Clive, I fitted the latest 2008 BMW LED rear light to my 2007 GS with no problems. Worked straight away, no dealer visit required. My GS was made in early 2007 but I doubt that a late 2007 bike is any different.
