Ive just fitted an LED rear light on the GS, wired in fine, and looks really good, but ive got a fault light on the LCD display saying bulb failure:blast
Ive spoken to BMW they say its normal and i need to fit a resister on one of the wires!
Do any of you guys know what size resister i need and which wire i would put it on, as theres three to choose from!!

cheers

You need two resistors, the wires will be earth, +ve light & +ve brake light, the resistors go between each +ve and earth. The resistor values will probably be a matter of trial and error, as the 21W brake light would need a .5 ohm, 20W resistor to mimic exactly, and that's not a tiny or cheap resistor.

Try a 1/4w rated resistor 100 ohm and see if that keeps the computer happy.

Of course the simplest fix it to replace you BMW light and send the 'dud' LED back to get a refund!:augie

Thanks for the advice il try that, so much for trying to save money on e-bay!!!

I bought one (with in-built resistor) from Nippy Norman some time ago. I often get a 'bulb failure' warning during pre-start sequence and after starting the bike, but it always disappears after the 1st pull of the brake lever; and works fine. Nippy Norman commented that this sometimes occurs and can be lived with.

Unfortunatly i didnt realise this one came with out resisters, so im in the dark about it. The main problem now is i cant receive software updates while theres a fault light showing on the LCD screen.

Stick the old bulb back in when you take the bike to the dealers.

2007 model question

I have been informed by many LED and alternate brake light manufacturers that LED do not work successfully on the 2007 model. Does any one have a 2007 model with LED's or modulating tail lights.
I would love to know what the changes were between the 2006 and 2006 electrics?

I have the Nippy set up on the rear end of my bike, it too gives a fault code now and again, i just stick the GS-911 in it to clear the code......BUT...
The GS-911 Always says No faults:nenau I some times gat the same with the LED front indicators too, same again, No fault after the report of a fault..

I just live with it now...
