Like with all my previous BMW's, I connected the LED top box break lights of my old trusty GiVi E52 on Sunday. To my pleasant surprise, they were now permanently on and would be perfect running lights for the rear. On breaking, they brighten up and all was well!
Well, not really: First difference I noticed was that the green indicator dashboard light for the front daylight would only come on once engine is started. Still, small price to pay! Light would switch as normal between daylight and the LED main light, be it manually or on the "Auto" mode.
Monday: All is still well and with the Daylight Auto on, everything works as normal and the green indicator for the front daylight switches off when I go into a tunnel the main beam on (on dip of course!) and return to daylight, with the green dashboard indicator on when the daylight automatically comes on when exciting from the darkness.
So, everything still wonderful. The cars stuck in traffic as I filter through are being entertained by a display of lights and they stop using their mobile phones and see me!
Tuesday: No green indicator for the daylight (I can live with that!). But then I also realise that the main beam is now permanently switched on and I can't have the daylight anymore- Sad!
I briefly unplugged it before the home journey and everything seems normal. Until it automatically switched to the main beam going through the Blackwall Tunnel and would not return again to the daylight mode. I'm unable to select this manually either.
So, hopefully I haven't created permanent damage and the bike is off to the dealer for its 600 mile service tomorrow.
Anyone out there that can give advice? Or is this the end of my much needed top box break lights that had alerted many an oblivious car rider behind me that I'm stopping and had interrupted their text messaging before making contact with my rear?
Please help!
