LEDpac on 1200GS

Update

Update - my Ledpac stopped working on way to the Newark bike show today - had assumed I had just made a doggy connection with the piggy back connectors into the tail light wires but on checking that is not the problem. Tried connecting them direct to the battery and still not working so looks like unit itself has failed which is not good!!

Have e mailed Nippy and will update as to the result. Hopefully it's just a one off but obvioulsy not so impressed with them now :augie

Any news on this ?

I sent them back to Nippy who sent them back to LEDpac in Germany for testing as they wanted to find out what the problem was so that the problem does not re-occure.

Nippy now confirmed that LEDpac had received a faulty batch of heat sensors from their supplier. They are now testing and will have a replacement out to me next week which they promise "will be durable and have a long life".

Will wait and see what turns up next week and update further ;)

Finally got a replacement LEDpac from Nippy - only problem is that one of the rubber rings around the lights had not been fitted properly :blast

Nippy offered a full refund or yet another replacement from LEDpac - instead decided to sort it myself and dismantled the LEdpac and put it back together properly ;) Then tested it for 3 hours attached to a car battery and everthing working ok :)

Will now get round to refitting it to the bike and test it properly.

Conclusion so far:
  • Happy enough with service from Nippy who has been let down by LEdpac.
  • Not happy with LEDpac who provided a faulty unit first time round and then a shoddily built unit second time round.
  • Replacement longer fitting bolts for bottom yoke made of cheese - fortunately have some quality stainless ones of the correct size to use instead.
Overall would not recomend the Ledpac due to the issues I have had so far which is dissapointing given the price of £149.

Worse still the price has now gone up to £199

HID's

I have come to the conclusion that HID's of any sort is a bit of a cock show.

Who has the biggest and brightest.

Right I am off to fit my HID50 50W converstion now, I am feeling inadequate now

I ordered a set from NN but only lasted one week. Since I live in Malaysia, i didn't fancy sending the unit all the way back to UK so i took it over to a friend, who has a LED factory locally. One look at it, he told me that there is a design flaw - in that the unit is bound to fail as there is too much heat build-up. He also remarked that the unit is probably made cheaply in China and not Germany!
I decided to send the unit back to NN and told him what my friend told me. I wanted a refund but NN said there has never been any returns and persuaded me to have another go with a replacement set.
It's been 2 weeks since I installed the replacement unit and to be fair, hasn't failed yet but I don't think I will recommend it to anyone.... especially at that sort of RRP!
