Having been very impressed with the sight of 2WheelHumvee’s HID in my mirrors I looked at doing the conversion. Decided against it because I don’t ride at night and I didn’t really want to start serious wiring on my bike.

In France we run with the headlamps on and I have the fogs as running lights which should be enough but I read an article somewhere (haven’t been able to find it again) about how a car drivers brain reacts to oncoming bikes, it wasn’t good. Even with the headlight ablaze they can have problems determining the speed and distance of the approaching bike.

Apparently different light intensities help them to do this so on went a Ledpac! I wired it into the fogs, the thing was fitted in less than 20 mins and it has a hell of an effect on drivers. These photos do not do it justice, it will burn your eyes! You need to see one in your mirrors to realise just how powerful they are. Not cheap at £149 from Nippy Normans but nothing ever is on a GS is it? A good bit of practical bling!

Bob,

Never mind the Ledpac, where did you get those hover-shoes?

:o :hide

Now they are very expensive and extremely exclusive but I can supply them in most sizes :D Very rare for me not to be ATGATT, especially boots but on this occasion I was, just went down the lane to take the pic. Well spotted Mike :thumb

Nice! Might have to consider doing something like that ....

Looks Good

But ,,,,
They would be a Lot more effective if they were mounted on the Handguards
Or just higher up .
They seem to be over priced big time.
Similar superbright Leds are not that Expensive when purchased in singles
It may be the "Machine" Costs .

They aren't the normal superbrights Civil one, I reckon the must be 3 watt Luxeons or something which need heat sinks etc hence the well engineered box. I am looking at putting some 10mm 100,000mcd LEDS in my hanguards, they are nowhere near as bright as the Ledpac so I may try to put some Luxeons there which isn't as easy.
I made a rear foglamp with 7 x 10mm 60,000mcd @ 15° at it isn't bad but again not as bright as the Ledpac.

I'm not so worried about the front. I ride using the Adv. 'fog lights' on as running lights (technically, as they are more than 2' from the ground they are not fog lights and it's not an offence to keep them on all the time - I stand to be corrected by ex/serving types). Surely, if your observation/anticipation/judgement is up to scratch you really shouldn't be caught out by someone pulling out in front of you.

It's your back that needs protection. Why do cars have high intensity rear 'fog lights' and bikes don't? In poor visibility (rain/spray) I do feel very vulnerable to a rear-end shunt.

I am looking for something like the Ledpac in red to mount as a switched high intensity light on the rear using the spare switchway on my '07 fog's switchblock.

Tourette's Tech. do one a neat little set in an alloy block, but it's about £80 -

Any ideas?
