Just been looking at our next moves as we head back into Spain from Portugal, and Seville looks like a possibility, but Google maps warns there are anti-pollution measures in place in the city centre.

OK, we can probably stay a little way out and avoid a fine (please don't say "hur hur, oo's gonna pay a Spanish fine then eh?") but it did get me wondering how long I'm going to be able to tour easily on my 1100.

Yep, this is a prob with pre 1150s and older bikes in general... EU cities may have different criteria to UK as well and ULEZ Qs have been popular on the oilheads section...
Laughably the ScotGov have an outright ban of older vehicles so apart from fines there's no revenue created by charges... The biggest 🤣 is bikes aren't included so a city centre LEZ can be traversed on an old smoky 2 stroke...!🙄

the ZBEs in Spain don't seem to be very big, so easy to avoid. I looked at the one in Bilbao and most of the hotels I was looking at were not in that zone. The one in Seville seems to be only the bit they call the Isla de la Cartuja sandwiched between the river and canal. It is not 24/7, only activated in bad air days.

There are exceptions for some non compliant vehicles such as accessing hotel parking.

A quick search (not gospel, then) suggests that even some 1150s are non-compliant. It depends on whether they are twin-spark ,equivalent to EURO2 or not. There are, however, other very puzzling restrictions on them such as having to park them underground after 10pm and only circulating between 7am - 10pm in low emission zones.

Yeah, well, Holyrood...

Yeah, we like the IBIS in Bilbao (underground car park, very central, inside the zone) and I think you can avoid any fines by registering an old bike as going straight to the hotel to park. Still a PITA, and I suspect it is going to get much worse as theae things are expanded. Maybe I should go and buy a nice new compliant bike - the manufacture of which won't produce any emissions at all, no siree.🙄

https://www.caminos.co.uk/blog/bilbao-low-emission-zone/#nutshell says you just give your reg no. to the hotel regardless of the age of vehicle as you cannot register foreign vehicles on the database. Also does not apply on weekends.

Yeah, well, Holyrood...
Ha, forgot you're even further north...👌 There a young lad working near my work who has an old brown Lada... I'm sure it's to get around the Aberdeen LEZ for parking near your house or flat under classic rules..😆
In Aberdeen if the LEZ doesn't get you, the bus gates will...!

When does the bike become ‘classic’ in Germany I think it’s 30/years old? Seems a shame to push perfectly good vehicles off the road. They have long since returned their production footprint.
