Close to signing on the dotted line for a Lenovo desktop PC - Chinese made, bought IBM but I recall reading somewhere (spoof I'm sure) that they're all fitted with a tracker so Mr Ho can see what we're all up to

Amyway, IO've no brand loyalty so are Lenovo any good? If I buy one will I be a happy bunny :nenau

I bought a Lenovo U410 Ideapad earlier this year, it had Windows 8 on it. I've sacked that and got back to Windows 7. It's better but the wireless reception is still awful. Still not hugely impressed with the performance of it though. It's a I3 with 8gb ram and it runs like toffee.....
I've never had a Lenovo desktop so can't hep there but I won't buy that brand again.

Have about a 150 of them at the work and they are fine. All of them are windows 7 so I have no idea what they are like on win 8. If you don't want run of the mill then don't get an i3 processor. They are the bottom of the pile and never going to impress. The i5's at work are good and my own i7 (it's me that buys them so I might as well get myself a good one) is a fast machine. Never had a failure in the 4 years we have been running them.

As for tracking, it's either the Chinese GCHQ or the NSA take your pick. Or its all bollox. What we do know though is one of them is going to snoop on your Internet traffic anyway so either don't have a computer and never connect to the Internet or just live with it.

Had a Lenovo Think Centre for about 5 years now running Win XP, still good but accountant telling me to buy afresh.
The fact that I will be looking for a Lenovo again says it all really

I buy nothing other than Lenovo. (laptops)

I currently have a 2yr old W520

They are the best-built laptops around.

Best keyboard - great if you touch-type
DVD drive is modular, so easy to buy a replacement and simply slot it in. You can also slot in a 2nd HDD in place of it.
1920 resolution,

The desktops are solid machines, although tend not to be the fastest/largest.

I've been using a Lenovo T430 whilst my Mac was in for repair and it has the best laptop keyboard I have ever used and I've had no end of work dell, hp, compaq and IBM laptops. The chassis on the T430 has zero flex too, brilliant bit of kit.

The screens aren't the best on the n30 range, but that's about to change (hopefully) with the n40 range, like the T440p etc.

Looking at this one here - do the job?
Lenovo Ideacentre K430 Desktop PC (Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz Processor, 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD, DVD, LAN, WLAN, Nvidia Graphics, Windows 8

I want one with decent graphics as I have to watch and assess many online videos from ted and currently my 3 year old HP just isn't up to the job.

It's not apparent from the description - but make sure that the graphics card can output 2 x DVI (for running dual monitors - now or in the future).

Stay clear of Win 8

Dell probably offers better value for money.

I know you're after a desktop but the thinkpads are brilliant. Stable, abuse resistant and easy to carry around.

If the picture of the back is correct it doesn't support dvi at all. HDMI and VGA by the looks of it. It may also have those odd ports that you need an adaptor for. Can't remember the name of them but my one has them.

Display port?
