anyone got one? opinions?

My trusty samsung x65 has terminally died and looking for a replacement with a matt screen and a good keyboard. Samsung p480 seems to have a naff keyboard compared to previous versions.... not many other matt options and not interested in Dell.

And I give my laptops a lot of greief through travels... so seems like THINKPADS are the buisness and they have a discunt deal on at moment.

Any feedback? They are pricey but seem built to last and a 3 year on site warrenty should make life easier...

looked at HP Pro ... but keyboard is flexy.

cheers

Gavin

I used to test laptops for a living, as in dismantelled them, see how they were built and how easy they were to fix.

This was a couple of years ago but the Thinkpads always came out as the best technical build. Since then IBM has sold out to Lenevo but the factories are the same so I would be confident with them.

Gavin,

Can't comment on that model. The last firm I work for we all used IBM Lenovo models T60 and T61's and earlier, about 150 of them.I kept mine when I left have it now with a docking station at home. No complaints with them at all.

I've used Lenovo for quite a while, good solid laptops that are so easy to fix, as all that can be replace easily and cheaply.

Although I've not personally used the Thinkpad range, alot of people I know have and they're chuffed with them also

:)

If my budget was as large as that of my employer, I'd buy Thinkpads too.

Have used them for more than 12 years and they're the dog's bits. Last one was a T 61 (I think) but I wanted something lighter to lug around so grabbed an X200 when it came free. Fantastic machine.:thumb2

I can honestly say that I've never suffered a hardware fault in any machine that I've had and they have a hard life. 30+ return flights a year, then either crammed in a top box or thrown around on the train for the rest of the time. Not to mention docked and undocked several times a day and carried by the lid to other desks or meeting rooms.

Highly recommended.:D

Thanks for the feedback!
Just ordered one from a Ro supplier - customer service was better than Lenovo UK! and they have one almost the spec I was looking for in stock...
So waiting for a courier in 2 days - pay on delivery .... lenovo uk said the machine I wanted would 'ship' in 12 days and would not deliver here!

Strange thing is my old Samsung x50 is actually one of the nicest laptops I have owned - shame that the cd drive wont work, battery is dead and is not really up to being lugged around anymore.. Why samsung modernised their designs and reduced quality I will never understand.

Lonovo computers

Spoke to our I.T. boffin last week and on his advice ordered one. Not arrived yet but they were highly recommended.

glad I bought one!! stood up to the coke test!!

Just thought I would update you ...

New T410 arrived ... really pleased with it. Good build and well fast! keyboard is really nice..

a really nice feature is the waterproof keyboard with built in drains! so good I just had to test it by breaking a nearly full glass of coke on the laptop a few days after I got it!! it darined through - i killed the power and took battery out super quick.

After taking keyboard out to check what had got into the machine... a very small drop on one side via the optical drive... cleaning the keyboard out with some alcohol... and letting it dry for a few hours. I very nervously turned it on and it worked!!

A few keys were a little sticky - so sourced a replacement keyboard for that new laptop feel (about £40). will wash out other one properly - but did not want to start removing the keys without a spare!

Most other cheaper laptops would have died after such a deluge!!

Also ordered a hard disk bay to go in place of the optical drive - so can have a built in back up drive!!

Pricey but worth it I think!

Gavin - Merry Crimble!
