Lest we Forget

Some of us are campaigning so we don’t have remembrance services for the soldiers died in 2018 , 19, 20 , 21 etc . The only way to do that is move on and use our time to stop war and it’s ridiculous ideology , and not glorify It with pointless ceremonies that are organised by the war mongers ie the government

I can't find any mention of the OP's visit being organised by the government, likewise when I went it was just me, no pointless ceremony, just me and my thoughts.

With regards to stopping wars of the future ? "Campaigning to stop wars", how are you actually doing that? What are you actually doing that may achieve this?

Ive answered that in a previous post I think

I like the ending. Also for me I respect and never will forget what these boys did for us. Perhaps it’s what pops said about them giving their today for our tomorrow. No I won’t forget and unfortunately as pops also said “while mankind is mankind there will always be conflict” which is what we see now constantly around this world of ours.

Video of the event in Lewes

The first 14 minutes are the men (plus one woman) walking to the war memorial from their starting points around town. The event starts at 14 minutes. It went on for about an hour, so I wouldnt expect anyone to watch the whole thing, but do watch at least the first few minutes, after the letter has been read out and the men start being called up to douse their torch.

Jetjock it’s remembering the past that hopefully makes us think about the future. I remember my dad saying he watched his uncle Alec marching off to take the train from Waverley station, his uncle Alec never came back it’s those memories handed down that I want to remember and make my little thank you to those boys.

Jetjock I believe that you have got to the point that you 'can't see the wood for the trees' both of the arguments carry the same message which is succinctly put above by Fishy23. I to recognise the the futility of war and what remembrance day represents, if you and engineer fail to see that then what hope is there.

I believe that you and Engineer are intelligent people however, it appears that what you both lack is common sense but that's life?

Not to be too controversial but I’m quite sure it’s the other way round . For years I accepted the remembrance as a worthwhile ceremony but as the years passed and I realised that war was just an economy with the truth of the real reason why we have wars is not what’s told to us . The yanks have just approved a $824 billion budget for 2018 because they don’t like 10 or so us citizens being killed by supposed terrorists . So that’s $80 billion per death .how crazy is that . So to celebrate us winning the war and remembering the war dead seems a tad lame as one thing it does is subconsciously makes war acceptable to the masses as the war mongers are laughing all the way to the bank

You make the mistake of assuming you are dealing with sane, mature and decent people; these individuals demonstrate that they are anything but. They choose to contaminate....and continue to do so... a thread about one mans journey of remembrance with their minority, bigoted and bizarre agendas. They do not understand because they choose not to; rejecting protests at their behaviour as intereference with their 'rights' of free speech. They are worthless, and you waste your efforts trying to ratify their obnoxious behaviour.

No at all you can be as controversial as you wish you seem to revel in it. But I feel that you are wrong.
I find your stance disturbing to say the least.

I also wonder what your argument would be if someone posted pictures of attending the Holocaust memorial day next January, should we look to forget all those who were murdered during the so called final solution?

I see the day of remembrance as being a chance to remember all of those who lost their lives and to make sure that you, I and countless others are able to express their opinions so openly and freely without fear of being censured.

This day also serves as a vivid reminder that war in its entirety is both futile and profitable in so many ways; equally it may be argued that it is beneficial for other reasons.

But perhaps after 153 posts enough has been said and we should respect the opinions of others and just acknowledge that war happens in whatever guise and if people wish to remember those who gave their all be it family, friends or people they never knew then so be it.

I am sure that all those that do acknowledge this day also never wish to see a repeat of a ‘world war’.

Well said, they should keep their crayons for the beakchat and bollocks section.

I know I am but hey ho live goes on. By the way what malt would you be sampling this evening??

Beakchat & Bollox....not low enough, there is an obvious need for a nursery section to be created on this forum!

SteveT got out on his bike and rode a solid 200 mile round trip in the freezing cold and on pretty shitty roads, he wasn't trying to force his views or opinions, he simply went out for a ride and because he had the audacity to share his reason for the trip his post is now being used for certain inadequate individuals to spout their own negative and unnecessary thoughts !
If this is something that you don't agree with then open a new thread in the infants section and feel free to 'bile' away as per usual, otherwise also feel free to fuck right off :D

Subscribers to this forum who have actually put themselves out of their comfort zone and have travelled through areas where life is perhaps less valued are more likely to appreciate our amazing lifestyle and freedom of speech...
Around 1 million Brits died during both wars, if you want to concentrate that it equates to a city like Birmingham having it's entire population killed !
So fucking grow up.

Because you don’t agree with my opinion ?

Can’t you see your ridiculous biased bigoted post ?

Or is it the malt talking ?

I left school on a Friday aged 15 and started work 3 days later on my 16th birthday so hence received zero further education, however I suggest that Gerard's post is far too eloquent to have been contrived post malt

I have a close friend ( who is very well educated and has his own de-commissioning ( oil & gas stuff ) business ), who throws all the toys out of the pram whenever anyone stands up and disagrees with his opinions ( it's usually me ), similar theme here.
