Let’s share some positive BMW 1200 GS/A (TC) Hexhead stories

Too many camshafts ;-)

I've not ridden one, couple of friends have them and have offered but I'm reluctant to in case I like them and want one!! I'll just stick with my single cam for now, it's done me well so far.

Although the TC engine is a little smoother, there’s nothing wrong with the single cam it’s a well proven lump. The 1200 single cam is the pinnacle of its development and there’s little in it between that and the TC, too little in my opinion to justify the spend on changing.

If buying outright, go for a TC but if you already own a good single-cam just keep it.

2021 rode from Guildofrd to Portsmouth, over night ferry to Le Havre, breakfast in Henfleur - beautiful then 4 days riding around Normandy with two other non GS bikes, did not miss a beat, top box full of water and snacks as other two had no where to store snacks. fabulous ride in the summer and plannign next trip for next year.
ps chap in fazer 600 ended up with 6 weeks of physio for his back and chap on the triumph had to fill up fuel everyday

Interesting comments above about wishing to keep their old 1200 gs/gsa before up/down grading to the 1250 as i am in the sma eboat considering getting a newer model!!

I purchased my 2009 single cam GS from this forum in 2010 with 1600 miles on it.

I’ve had it mapped and switched the exhaust for decat version. It goes and sounds great and it does everything I want.

I’ve had the final drive repaired by Mikeyboy, changed the battery once, and replaced the rear break master cylinder. Otherwise no issues.

I like the fact I can do all the standard maintenance myself.

I bought and ex-ORS 1200 Rallye which I used for the TAT in 2018, but ultimately sold it and kept the hexhead. I also test rode the 1250GS but thought it had less character.

The 1200 Rallye was great but the hexhead stayed.

Senegal. The Mrs loves the GS too.

No plans to sell her anytime soon.

I remember that trail in Iceland 😱😱
I think that was me second from the bottom.
Glad you've still got her. 👍🏻

I’m on my third hex head, having started with a new R80GS in 92, then 100GSPD, 2 x 1100GSs then bought my first 1200, a new 2007 GSA when I lived in the US and rode across America and Canada. Never missed a beat. When I moved back to the UK I bought a used 2007 GS (by now it was 2012), had this one for five years, again never missed a beat. I then bought a new 2017 GS LC but never really got on with it so 18 month later bought a new 2018 GSA, again, not for me. Maybe too meany distractions? I then bought a Triumph 1200 Bonneville for a complete change after 30 years of GSs. And now I have recently bought a 2010 TC which I think I’ll be keeping. The only trouble I had was the gear boxes on my air heads. I Look back now, and it’s funny, for years all my mates teased me for riding what they called “tanks” (even when they struggled to keep up!) and now it’s the most popular bike in the world!!
