Let down by my bike on my first big run.

It's a VERY well known problem so either the guy is having you on or he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about..............

They can become intermitant before failing completley so don't rule it out just 'cos you got the bike started ok.

Andres

wot he said.

I had and almost identical situation with my 2008 GSA. Kept intermittantly cutting out for a week or so, and then just failed completely. Lucklily I was at a set of traffic lights when it failed and not the motorway.
Thought it was the FPC but it turned out to be the cam shaft sensor. Recovered and replaced under warranty all well afterwards.

Good luck getting it sorted

Well, ran the bike for 20 mins this morning, got it red hot, didn't fail!
Still had it recovered to the dealer, so it's in their hands now.
Told them that I wouldn't ride it until its sorted and I'll keep the hire car just out of spite even though I don't need it.

I mentioned about the known fuel pump issues and the guy denied all knowledge about any fuel pump problems with GS's.

It's not the fuel pump itself that is the problem, its the fuel pump controller,
Maybe the dealer got the wrong end of the stick,

Oh and trippy, when did you last go out for a ride, motorway or back roads,
Twat.

girth you dont say if you road tested the bike or ran it up on the stand,if the latter do not do this again you risk overheating and the oil sight glass melting and letting the oil out over your garage floor:rob

sorry but that's at best a 2/10 jab a trippy, it got a responce because he'll even responed to a faint smell.

If you want to up your score you've got to include the C word and get it in early - you then need to be very blunt about his need for attention and end with an opinion on his ability to even make basic progress through life.

... So can I suggest that you give it another go as a sub 5/10 score means the 'I'm a TWAT hat' is being worn by you.

The fault should be recorded on the bikes ECU and the dealer should be able to see what that was.

Just had a phone call from the dealer, said that they were just about to give up and send me on my 170 mile journey home, the technician spotted a seal that he shouldn't have been able to see, on the the fuel pump control module, and it was full of water. What a shock!
And surprise, they have the parts in stock!

Point taken, he did reply though, I was merely being a bit subtle,
Even though I think he may be a vagina, I've never met him, so kept it low key

that should have been the first place he looked

Is the FPC easy to replace at the roadside or does the tank need to be drained ? I have read many threads on the failures so I presume it's just a matter of time.

Easy. Remove LHS tank panel, take round lid off fuel pump, couple of electrical connections and 2 torx screws. Job done.

On my 3rd FPC at 67,000 miles. If you regard it as a consumable, costing £80? that lasts 3 - 5 years, it doesn't seem so bad.

Who'd have thought :blast

That's for the nonsense gabble from the dealer - what a load of old crap, as Cookie says any tech would given the symptoms had gone straight for it - I guess they've taken you newbie status as "he wouldn't know anything else, so feed him some shite" I hate that and would be inclined to refer them to the 3,000,000 references to it on this site and then call him an utter cock!

Glad you're sorted :thumb

I bought a spare for my 2007 before my first trip abroad and keep it on the bike. The bike is on 33,000 miles now and the FPC is still in the packet.
Good insurance if travelling.

Had one fail on a trip to Ireland a few years ago, B/H weekend so it totally beggared up the holiday.
I always carry a spare on my RT these days.

you said they were "about give up" man how dumb are some dealers. like if something breaks so often then it should be 1st item rule out then start the digging for unusual problems.

Great hear you got sorted and happy riding.

just goes show i am happy to do DIY work and get help from this site before i go to a dealer.

as for a spare? ah if you not going to africa then i wouldnt bother. maybe in year or so, or 30k miles on concider having one but dont go rushing to buy one if they just fited nw one
