Been lurking for a while - but thought it was time to contribute.

History - ordered the GS1200in January. Previously had a K75s and wanted something with better everything. Was originally going for a 1150gs but then got wind of the 1200gs. Delivered May.

Now done 4600 miles.
Positives:
- wonderful handling - goes exactly where you want it when you want it
- the brakes: after having a K75 they are in a different league entirely. Powerful, responsive and with abs for that extra feeling of security on those damp/wet days
- fairly good fuel economy ~50mpg most of the time
- fantastic dealer support (Jefferies, Shipley). Any problem always sorted.

and the problems...
- new gearbox fitted after original started with a small leak around interface of rear engine casting and gearbox housing
- back wheel now rather loose (about 5mm of play when warm). New rear drive assembly on order from BMW.
- engine surging at modest filtering speeds, but mostly sorted by new fuel map downloaded when fitting gearbox.

Thought everything was now hunky dory and could get on with enjoying the bike. However...

Riding home this evening in the dark - just why do we have to change the clocks in the UK? - notice that the main beam switch is not working corectly. Just the lightest of touches, or the vibration through the bars, causes it to go onto dipped even though switch itself remains in main beam position. Oh well, another thing to be replaced under warranty. This way I'll have a new bike by stealth!

Overall impressed with the bike when functioning properly and the dealer support has been first rate. Not so impressed with BMW quality control, but keep telling myself that all is now so nearly sorted.

Any way sure am glad for the waranty (and I think any profit BMW made on the sale must be long gone by now) but do wonder somewhat for the long term.

Welcome to the mad'ouse Ampthill.

Some of us Tykes are trapped down here in bandit country. I manage to get visa's out every so often.

Bikes a good un I reckon. :D

You're not alone. Mine's been changed (discovered it only worked if I kept my thumb on it during the National Rally) and my dealer has changed a lot of others as well. I expect a flood of problems as people use main beam for the first time now its getting dark early!
